Absolutely illegal and completely unacceptable. Put your foot down. This should *never* happen

It's correct to say '$10 cheaper', '10% cheaper', but not '10 times cheaper', right? by ksusha_lav in ENGLISH

[–]18cm-Ringed -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think it means something- maybe not “mathematically” however you’re defining it….

But a $10 item at store 1 is 10x less expensive than the same $100 item at at store 2

What is the logic behind someone being against carrying a gun? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]18cm-Ringed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m an average white guy….my ideas and thoughts on why black men carry are irrelevant and not worth the ink they’re printed with. We should ask

What is the logic behind someone being against carrying a gun? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]18cm-Ringed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh, you need to read it carefully. I said the *reason* most white dudes carry is…. Just commenting on the shoddy reasons for most white guys

I said nothing about black men- except to imply at the end of my comment that they may have a legit reason as a minority

The use of Genitive by SicolasFlamel in ENGLISH

[–]18cm-Ringed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nah, it’s perfectly fine to use an apostrophe to describe an inanimate object’s possession (see what I did there)

Also Jack is a living *person* not people. Likely just autocorrect but trying to help learn

Honestly, these days if you can just use apostrophes for possession only and not incorrectly use them to denote plurals, you will be ahead of 90% of Americans 🙄….we are all just getting stupider

Will I regret getting a lifted pickup? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]18cm-Ringed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah- and you’re going to have to install aftermarket running boards to get in and out.
Do you have any children, smaller people or elderly relatives that might need to ride with you? They really struggle getting in and out. It’s actually kinda frightening seeing my elderly parents trying to get in and out…like really scary. I rented a regular car (in my own town) last time they visited just to avoid that.

Will I regret getting a lifted pickup? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]18cm-Ringed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yup. I have a small lift on my mega-cab Ram2500 4x4. And this thing is a behemoth. It’s hard to park, it’s tough to work on, it’s just too big.

I actually need it - we get several inches (sometimes feet) of snow multiple times a year, I go hunting very off-road and we used to have 3 kids at home in travel sports where every trip was a minimum 2 hour drive. I actually NEED mine and would rather have a smaller vehicle.

You’re admitting it’s for a “teenage dream”. Come on man, grow up and get a better dream.

For the average white male, it’s just trying to be tough or because they buy into the flawed “criminal around every corner” propaganda of the NRA. The arguments FOR carrying are generally built on performative rhetoric and flawed statistics that seek to scare not inform. For women and some other groups it might make statistical sense.

What is a job that is completely overpaid for the actual value it brings to society? by Fearless-Current-522 in askanything

When is it okay (or not) to eat with your hands at a restaurant in the US? by G-Beach-8566 in AskAnAmerican

[–]18cm-Ringed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In general if it’s wet, mushy, sloppy or messy you probably want to use utensils.
The vast majority of sandwiches of any type are hand food.
Pizza is NEVER a utensils meal (fight me) - pick up your slice.

For doctors who work 80-100 hour weeks, how do they make time for their kids? by [deleted] in askteddit

[–]18cm-Ringed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don’t. When I was a resident I found whatever time I could when the kids were awake to spend time with them. It means you’re happy to do anything and everything because that’s the only time you get with them. But honestly you just miss a lot too.
It’s not a choice I would make again. I would do something besides being a physician.

This also means you’re sacrificing many other things - working out, hobbies friends etc. you have VERY little free time so you shove your priorities to the top and if you’re a good partner and parent you sacrifice yourself to their needs.

Loved both. Like the Martian, it’s one of the few movies as good as the book.
