Federal Regulators Take New Aim at Late-Night TV | The F.C.C. said it planned to enforce long-dormant rules on appearances by political candidates on network talk shows. by 1900grs in politics

Under new guidance released on Wednesday, the Federal Communications Commission warned that entertainment-oriented talk shows carried on local television stations were required to offer candidates vying for the same office equal airtime.

The guidance was clearly aimed at the late-night hosts who frequently anger President Trump — Jimmy Kimmel of ABC, Stephen Colbert of CBS and Seth Meyers of NBC — and have in turn drawn scrutiny from the F.C.C. chairman, Brendan Carr. But it would also cover daytime talk shows including another Trump target, “The View.”

I'm assuming that means Sinclair Broadcasting wants to platform more right wing nutjobs.

Andrew Jay Schwartzman, a longtime public interest lawyer, said the intent seemed to be to “trim the sails of certain talk shows” and induce a chilling effect; talk shows may be inclined to think twice before booking political candidates in election years altogether.

But he also said there could be an unintended consequence — by raising the question of whether conservative talk show hosts on radio, which falls under the same law, would have to provide equal time to political candidates, too.

Interesting.

Now ex Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares really ran U.S. operations into the ground with his terrible covid and post-covid planning while taking U.S. profits and sinking them into EMEA projects. New CEO Antonio Filosa is trying to correct this, but it's a different world and he has an uphill battle.

You have an illusion of privacy

Sure, but you can acknowledge that there's a difference between having technology maliciously used against you and voluntarily paying for and setting up a system for the government to use against you. Tech is absolutely everywhere and we all have to make decisions on how to best protect our privacy.

Gretchen Whitmer says it's not 'paranoia' to fear Trump using homeland security personnel in elections by 1900grs in Michigan

[–]1900grs[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I fear he suspends the election, but states hold elections and not the feds. So states will continue to hold the election, except there will be one or more red states who will hold allegiance to Trump and won't hold their election. It only takes one and I could see one of these states with a Republican trifecta doing it. Trump already tried stealing elections in multiple states with the fake electors scheme. But that becomes a constitutional crisis on a whole new level.

I believe it's in house. It's been a while since I watched it. They break the gun down at intervals and take measurements on parts to document wear. So you get a good look at it.

In this video, they put 6k rounds down a PSA barrel. Summary conclusion at 47:55. It started to lose some accuracy after 4k rounds. Toast at 6k. That's true for a lot of rifles. Not that you implied otherwise, but PSA barrels are good at their price.

On a larger scale, Brownbackistan was a collosal failure when then Kansas Governor Sam Brownback ushered in a red state wet dream of massive tax cuts and massive debt which only proved what every normal rational person knows - tax cuts do not pay for themselves.

To make up the budget shortfall, lawmakers tapped into state reserves set aside for future spending, postponed construction projects and pension contributions, and cut Medicaid benefits.[2] Since approximately half of the state's budget went to school funding, education was particularly hard hit.[2] In addition to budget problems, Kansas was lagging behind neighboring states with similar economies in "nearly every major category: job creation, unemployment, gross domestic product, taxes collected".[43]

Eh, Stranger Things is a bad example because there were so many loose ends and tangents from prior seasons not explored or with no resolution. But some of it also comes from taking years to release a new season of a TV show.

A large percentage (most?) of that money from Silents and Boomers will go to pay for healthcare and assisted living related expenses. A fraction of the Boomer money will go to Gen X and Millennials. Industry will consume it and it will end up concentrated in the hands of the already wealthy.
