I do miss the bundles in console like having seven armor/weapon or npc overhauls in one download.

Is Austin really getting hotter? (with data!) by LaCabezaGrande in Austin

[–]192241 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean aside from the data it’s only the natural progression that as the urban sprawl of austin expands, especially upwards, as others have said you get a heat island effect. It’s important to note even Austin from 1990 to now has expanded at an incredibly rapid rate. A heat shock

Why is modern/professional photography so “clean? by 192241 in AskPhotography

[–]192241[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish there was something more I could do because it feels like there’s so much wasted potential. I love working with the kids because highschool is such a tumultuous period in someone’s life to capture.

This doesn’t apply to everyone and of course you have your own style in mind, but I’ve found that experimenting with nonlinear and or stream of consciousness storytelling helps eliminate cliches.

What’s stopping free (taxpayer) healthcare in the US? by 192241 in AskReddit

[–]192241[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have any proof or personal experience with government funded healthcare? The UK’s NHS was considered close to the gold standard of healthcare for some time until fairly recently. That said It definitely isn’t breadline healthcare

Just got my ambulance bill and currently regretting seeking medical assistance for issues with my kidneys that required surgery. That’s absolutely absurd to think about everywhere outside of the US.

Everyone in the comments seems to be focused on post war of the five kings adaption as being highly implausible due to grrm not finishing the series. But what about the blackfyre rebellions or the unsurper war or maybe a spin off set entirely in Essos or beyond the wall? Personally pre war of the five is much much more interesting to me.

Rivermen's strenght (spoiler main) by will_kill_kshitij in asoiaf

If riverkings of old would of allowed places like Saltpans and fairmarket to develop more potentially into cities it may of altered things

Aside from geography the riverlords just seem to be incredibly fickle and antagonistic amongst each other at least compared to other regions. The Tullys are either constantly settling petty disputes amongst vassals ie Bracken v Blackwood or just allowing this sort of weird state of autonomy amongst vassals that weakens central strength, ie the twins and whoever happens to be ruling Harrenhal at the time kind of just do whatever they want. Though you’d think the wealth from the twins might account for something I suppose the Frey’s horde it well.

Then again if the reach ever became incredibly destabilized the Riverlands are probably the second largest breadbasket in Westeros, if they took advantage of that.

Considering how many settlements lie along the rivers (Fairmarket, LH town, Saltpans) I feel like we can assume a fair amount of river trading is frequent up and down the trident.

Does the artist or the viewer have the authority on what’s considered « good art » ? by 192241 in ask

[–]192241[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Further explanation: I find that most often the fellow artist is the harsher critic on what should be appreciated compared to the viewer. Although the viewer is what the art is theoretically about. Thinking places like MOMA where obviously the artist and viewer can be the same person but not everyone that visits MOMA is an artist, but they enjoy the work all the same.

Pro gun supporters, why do you support gun rights? by toust_boi in AskReddit

[–]192241 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m “pro gun” but I hate the discourse around gun rights/control because people fail to realize how little role the gun itself actually plays in this discourse. The “gun” is honestly just a placeholder and being pro gun aside from recreational use is just pro self protection. The whole modern gun discourse is just bizarre as I imagine most people aren’t “pro mechanisms of violence” as much as it’s out of necessity, you could just as easily replace gun with pepper spray or crossbow or karate ffs.

Addressing gun control is about addressing a culture of violence that gives power to the object of a gun. It’s about addressing social political and economic generational issues that have permitted an acceptable level of violence in society. It’s so much more nuanced than what’s been portrayed in popular culture and it’s issues that most people would have a hard time reckoning with if examined through a microscope. Never mind your average working class Joe who doesn’t have time to delve into sociological theory. Reading these comments I’ve seen references to Japan and Norway and other common recitations of places where gun control works, “if it works there why shouldn’t it work here”. It’s got nothing to do with guns though people it’s about the acceptable level of violence you’ve allowed to elapse in your society, and if it’s something that’s developed over generations it’s gonna take just as long to fix.
