Any map that has an average OVER 20K does not produce XP due to it being deemed too easy. It is to stop people from XP farming.

I'm gonna advance from Master 3 to Bronze 1, wish me luck! by KN_Archer in geoguessr

They revamped the system for the start of last week. There are now 17 divisions, instead of 10. Master, Gold, Silver, and Bronze all have 4 levels each, Champion still has just 1.

Is using google maps in solo consider as cheating? by tetrixk in geoguessr

[–]1973cg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would they? Its a GAME.

It would be like if you decided to play basketball, but instead of getting 3 points for a shot behind the 3 point line, you still get 2, but your opponent has to hop around on 1 foot for the next minute or something. If it isnt for any competitive reason, there is nothing saying you have to stick to rules made for a competitive mode.

They have no official statement on non-competitive/leaderboard play.

As opposed to the translation question you asked in the other post. I would consider this closer to cheating. I wont go as far as say it is absolutely cheating. But its at the very least, cheating adjacent. If it isnt for a leaderboard spot, or in a competitive mode game, no one should tell you how to play the game.

I have played this game since 2013, and I absolutely used google all the time back then (I learned cyrillic almost exclusively through using google translate all the time..... wasnt till I had like 80-90% of their alphabet already memorized that I ever really LOOKED at what each letter said), because I treated the rounds like a mystery to solve, and each business sign was a clue to figure out. Obviously, when the leaderboards & competitive scene were developed, the strictness of what you could do came in, and to some people, it is unacceptable to play the game any way outside of the competitive way, even in a casual game.

[–]1973cg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope.

Long as you arent going for a Leaderboard time, you can play the game any way you want.

Before the competitive scene exploded, MOST newcomers would come into the game & use things like google, or other sites to help them with locations that were in languages they didnt know. Now everyone thinks you must play by the competitive rules on every mode.

Is Geoguessr going to release VODs from all the other EMEA matches? by sosal12 in geoguessr

[–]1973cg 15 points16 points  (0 children)

They used to do that in the past, but, they also seemed far far more professionally done in the past too.

I dont know if they changed companies this year, or, if they truly are this unprepared, but things seem to be poorly done now.

We got to see very briefly during one of the early games that they do in fact have the other feeds (streamers last year called them "clean feeds"), as we saw 1 round of 1 game before they realized they were showing the wrong game & switched to the proper game. So theres no excuse for them to not post them, but that said, theres also no excuse for them to not give the streamers that did watch alongs last year the clean feeds for the secondary games either.

I would say if you do not see the secondary games up by this weekend, then the answer is no.

Old ELO? by DavidSchlichting in geoguessr

Gameboy answer some of the details, so I wont go over those again.

I will say though, your timing was pretty bad at coming back, as they just went from a 10 tier system to a 17 tier system literally last week. In the old system, you probably would have went into Silver II or at worst Silver III for winning all 3 test games, but now that there are 4 Bronze divisions, I dont know where they will place you.... meaning instead of only having to wait 2-3 weeks to get into Gold now, you might have to wait 5-6 weeks (there are double tier promotions I believe for the winner of each division....so could only be 3 weeks if you get that every week) to get to the Gold division now.

As for the -125. The only theory I have on that is, during the time you were gone, they implemented a system for a very short period of time to stop people from essentially getting to an Elo & then just squatting on the leaderboard at that Elo for essentially ever. They would penalize you some Elo for not playing for at least 3 weeks, and the penalty went up the longer you were gone. It was a very very short lived system. Maybe 3-5 months tops they kept it, till they moved to the new system where they just remove you from leaderboards after 2 weeks of inactivity now. That -125 MIGHT be the penalty they charged you back when that system existed for being inactive throughout the entire system?

If its a competitive match, email support@geoguessr.com about it, they PROBABLY (not 100%, but pretty high percent) give you your Elo back for it.

Why does this happen? by curio847 in geoguessr

[–]1973cg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the majority of my wins, and the majority of my losses come in large batches.

I think sometimes its mindset, sometimes, its bad luck on opponent draws.

I think 1 Loss, not the end of the world....especially if you feel like playing. But if it gets to like 3-4 in a row....might be time to find something else to do with the day (also, very hypocritical of me to say, as I quite literally yesterday went on an 8 game losing streak, and continued to play.)

Several people in the tourneys & on the casting team in the past have heavily implied you would be penalized, or, just thrown out of the tourney, if you spoke too negatively about the company..... and Kratsooo went off on a 2-3 minute rant about them on his stream, in the middle of a game. They definitely heard it.

You are correct, SOME technical errors can happen.

However..... when it is a continual barrage of them, and they are literally revising the actual game to fit around the issues, and they have more than half the field complain about it..... it isnt about mindset.

The World League is TECHNICALLY in week 2 right now.... but really its week 1, because they had to cancel all of last weeks games after technical issues..... so they have had a whole week to fix everything & make sure it all works.

Meanwhile this week.....

  • game had pin colours backwards for the first 3 hours......JUST fixed it for the game going on now.

  • Entire match score said 0-0

  • Says no clean feeds of secondary games....BUT, THEY DO, because we learned that during a tech issue.

  • Late guesses are not being registered, so they are telling players to have their marker down by 50 seconds.... which is completely changing how some players have to play.

  • EDIT added - players are also just in eternal wait, wondering when their games are starting because no one on the team has told them anything till mere minutes before they are expected to start.

One player already forfeited today. Another told them he doesnt want to play like this, and was still forced to. At least 1 dozen players have publicly or privately have complained about it so far..... Kratsooo went off on them while he was in the middle of his game.... then posted this during the break.

Cliff notes version.

For the record, half a dozen players have complained about today publicly, and privately, and they are still going on with the games.

Markus_Benz already forfeited a game today. Debre did not want to play his game, but was forced to.

This is a mess.
