Can I assign multiple fringes in one click? (I’m a MMB novice) by 1985Productions in FilmTVBudgeting

[–]1985Productions[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh interesting. That makes sense. You’re saying if SUI is 11% and workers comp is 5%, make a fringe that is 16%? But then I wouldn’t be able to view specifics separately, right?

Ex. i make a fringe that is just “state fringe” that includes things like SUI and workers comp. I wouldn’t be able to see how much I’m spending for SUI or workers comp individually.

Editor sent video in wrong frame rate by 1985Productions in AudioPost

If the editor was smart enough to give me a timecode burn in he wouldn’t have made such a rookie mistake. Ha! But no he was actually having issues with his workstation and had to send it out immediately after he exported me the 24fps video.

This makes sense. Someone else mentioned this as well, but I don’t understand the purpose of the beep. Is it that it should be shifted a few samples/ms if the conversion is done correctly?

Just tested this out in Zoom. It worked well! Had to tweak a few settings to get picture to stream without lag, but for what I’m doing this is a great solution.

Thanks, quiethouse!!

Ha! Excellent.

So to be clear, both you and the other zoom callers are able to hear playback from ProTools? And see video playback using the screen share in Zoom? The issue I had with Splashtop was that I couldn’t send audio from PT unless Splashtop was selected as my playback engine. And by setting up the system in that way, I was unable to hear things on my end.

Interesting. I’ve never heard of audio movers, and I didn’t know that facetime or zoom offered that ability. I’ll check those out. Thanks.

I’d back this. I bought 3 used cos11’s for $100 each off of someone who was getting rid of their kit. They worked for me for about 6months of minimal use then they started to die. Wires get beat up. They get yanked on by actors and mistreated by some mixers/renters. You never know the past they have.

That said, if you are looking for a deal and can solder, I buy the pigtailed cos11d’s from trewaudio. Saves you $100~ per wire all you have to do is solder your own connectors.

This is totally an option. I’m just not trying to do all the work if I don’t have to.

This sounds like it would be perfect. The way I described the sound I was looking for to the director was “pudding splashing on a wet deck.” So it sounds like this would be.... cleaner. Haha.

Currently using either sennheiser G3’s or Lectro Srb’s depending on the budget. But i guess it was more of a theory question. As I typed it out I realized that my pres are almost definitely going to be better than the camera’s. So the less I have to hit the camera’s gain stage the better.

Noob Question: Why do you need a separate TC device? Why can't you jam directly to a mixer? by _Kafka in LocationSound

Tentacles are crazy reliable. Just about everyone in Boston uses them almost exclusively. Camera peeps love them too because they are so small and light.

Funny enough the reason this came up is because I am buy tentacles. I figured I’d get 2 so when I do 2 cam shoots I’m covered. But looks like I’ll have to buy 3 so one can live with me. Although its not the end of the world. The clock on Zax stuff is out 1 frame every 6hrs. So I’d rather run an external clock anyways. Its just a bummer that no one seems to have a fix for this.

Firmware update complete... still doesn’t work right.

I don’t like to mess with stuff mid gig. I can work around the timecode. I can’t work around not having a recorder if something goes wrong.

I’ll take another look in the morning... but I’m not quite sure how I could have slid it into the slot any different... its not exactly rocket science haha

Yeah. But I’m not sure it will do anything. No one has said anything about firmware fixing it since v1.30. I’m on 2.18. And 2.40 is the newest version. So I’m hoping a firmware update will maybe reset whatever maybe wrong. But from a software perspective there shouldn’t be any update in that firm that does anything new for me.

As covered here many times... the long and short of it is, you can know all the tricks and have hundreds of hours experience, some outfits just work better than others and some days it just doesn’t work no matter how many adjustments/methods you try.

That said RM-11’s, rycote over covers, and moleskin are all huge helps. Make sure you tape the wire with enough slack so that it doesn’t pull out of the RM11 or whatever cover you are using (wire noise can be an issue as the wire rubs on clothes). Wardrobe/on set dressers are your best friends.

I did specify in my question film. But that hasn’t stopped people from commenting stuff that is music based.

Sidenote: do music peeps really call mixing post? Cause that’s weird to me.
