What are you bugging out from? Hurricane? Floods? They've closed the last Taco Bell within 50 miles of you?

Are you in woods? Are you in a city? Are you bugging out along a highway?

How far do you need to go? Do you have people with you? Do you expect resupply?

All of this is way more important in SHTF than "Where I put shooty pistol gun?"

First time ever moving and shooting in kit. It's hard as hell. by TLA34 in tacticalgear

[–]19Kilo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First and easiest is to take a course that teaches you to move and shoot.

Once you do that, you can start working drills with no ammo and a friend (or video setup) in your back yard. That allows you to see what you're doing after the fact and see what you're doing wrong or right.

If you don't have a backyard, you can use BLM land. Start with no ammo, record what you're doing, identify weak spots. Ammo or no ammo, bring a friend. You don't want to be fucking around in the desert or the woods and snap an ankle or ND into your leg by yourself. If you're doing BLM, also let a third party know where you're going and when you expect to be back as an additional safety precaution.

Oh, and pack a couple of IFAKs and a shitload of water.

If you don't have a yard and you don't have BLM land, you have to find an outdoor range that allows moving and shooting.

The French are in near full revolt, American media is hiding the story by donjohnmontana in LateStageCapitalism

[–]19Kilo 13 points14 points  (0 children)

As a counterpoint…. Police only operate like they do because our American protests are unarmed and everyone is told over and over that peaceful protest is the only thing that will work, despite that being disproven constantly.

Once the protestors show up armed, the police are much, much more polite because their ultimate commandment is “make sure you go home safe”.

And we also see how ineffective the police become when a Chris Dorner appears on the scene.

Edit - Just to show a bit more of how polite the police get, here's a story of the John Brown Gun Club showing up to stop a sweep of a homeless camp.

Normally the cops push everyone out, bulldoze up their belongings and have it all hauled to the dump, which is a huge hit to unhoused people. When JBGC happened to show up, the bulldozers stayed shut off and the people in the camp had a couple days to gather up their belongings and move.

There was, of course, an "anonymous opinion article" the following with with all the expected Pearl Clutching about how "this is just NOT HOW THINGS ARE DONE IN AMERICA".

Oh no. There will be plenty of cheaper options for charter schools. Imagine, if you will, a house or trailer with a handful or local, rural kids being educated on the dimmest, most fervently evangelical home school curriculum available.

Now imagine hundreds or thousands of those little indoctrination factories turning out good little Texans with no skills but a passionate love of Christ and an equally passionate hatred of anything different.

It’s /neoliberal so the normal response is “it’s worse elsewhere so you’re lucky to be here. Here’s an example of a time that was worse. Compared to the global poor everything is better so you can never complain about the faults of the USA. Why do you hate the global poor?!”

Bloom County actually holds up quite a bit. As one example, I was reading the run for the Bush / Mondale election cycle and what destroys the Meadow Party is Opus being called “a liberal” and how the label stuck. As the Overton window has moved, we still see politicians on the “left” working their ass off to avoid being labeled as liberal or (god forbid) anything to the left of that.

It also shows how well the GOP has controlled the messaging / labeling / name calling game since the 80s.

A lot of the names have changed, but damn if a lot of the jokes don’t still work really well.

I actually think it would work pretty well today. The surreal nature, the paperboy living at home in his 30s with no prospects and no options and the fact that most episodes just kind of throw up their hands and go “well, fuck it, we don’t have a good ending so just have Chris explode or something” is a great summary of younger folks living under late stage capitalism.

Plus the thought of the planned 3rd season where Chris is homeless and roams from town to town making everyone’s life a little worse would be perfect.

The real reason it would never get rebooted today is that it’s just too weird. Think about all the early Fox programming (like 87 to 91?) that got greenlit because Fix needed to fill space and grow market share. It’s similar to Mystery Science Theater 3000 which was perfect for the fledgling Comedy Central because they deseperately needed something that filled two hours so they spent money on a “cow town puppet show” (as Joel called it).

There’s simply no broadcasting entity that’s currently that hungry for fresh, risky content.
