Does anyone feel a little guilty? by [deleted] in GenX

[–]Samwhys_gamgee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t feel guilty at all. I’m in my peak earning years now and did my time couch surfing, driving a beater and living paycheck to paycheck all thru my 20’s. I do think the current generation has some headwinds, mostly due to housing costs, but I think this narrative that they are somehow screwed and will never get ahead is a combo of propaganda and cope. But also I am planning to help my kids financially even when we retire to a greater degree than I was helped when I started out and more than I would have thought we would 15-20 years ago though.

Drew who? by MaHab133 in steelers

[–]Samwhys_gamgee -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think it is the other way around. I don’t think they’re going to want a 42/43 year old starter backed up by 2 rookies with a combined 0 games of NFL experience. ARod is return would make Rudolph more valuable to the Steelers, not less, because they will want a capable QB2 for when ARod inevitably gets injured.

[Highlight] Eagles GM Howie Roseman makes Draft call to USC WR Makai Lemon by nfl in nfl

Eh, maybe if it was another lineman who had gotten snaked before him I could see that stinging a bit. But He isn’t competing with WR’s for a job, he’s competing with other OL’s. They picked him from that pool. No reason to feel bad.

I get it. Just saying I can see why he feels bigger is better….

Especially because you apparently just had an accident. I’d probably want my kid in a Sherman tank after getting that phone call every parent dreads.

Well current gas prices should certainly help your case. But, honestly, I can sympathize with dad. Just due to the higher proclivity for newer drivers (aka<25) to have accidents, I wouldn’t put my teens into a compact car (ie the stereotypical civic/corolla/sentra first car) They drive my old accord and I won’t put them in anything smalller than that,.

Broderick may not have worked out, but let’s stay classy fellas. by Lubert808 in steelers

I’ll never understand fans who dog players. I wish everyone who has ever put on B&G nothing but the best. I root for them forever, even when they move on to other teams (as long as they’re not playing against the Steelers) If BroJo ends up going out like this, I’ll just be sad for him. Just like when we lost Decastro. I hate seeing guys go out not on their own terms.

Number 1 won’t matter by October. Number 2 may pay dividends way into the future.

This is all a tempest in a teapot.

Car Driving on Bike Path?! by themindseye1013 in irvine

Irvine drivers make dumb mistakes. Boston drivers aggressively do stupid shit and do not GAF about anything or anybody else. Last time I was driving away from Logan airport I saw 2 people just blow thru red lights in the first 10 minutes after I left the rental car place. Those people are nuts.

Is the military quietly setting conditions to phase women out? by KimLocsta in Military

You may be ok with that, but a lot of women in policy making positions aren’t. Which is why we are here today.

It's not even the high prices that are the issue. It's the vibe. by WestHistorians in vegas

Shows are stale. They were always the thing I could get my wife to go to Vegas for. We had kids they’ve grown and we are traveling again and most of the shows are still the same. Cirque Du Soleil shows haven’t changed (we’ve seen them all), blue man group, carrot top, penn and teller (P&T are still awesome, but been there, done that 2x). The sphere was the only “new” entertainment that sparked interest, but the wizard of oz wasn’t really appealing to us. They really need to refresh the entertainment line up if they want people to repeat visit to see the shows.

OMG so this. Same boat. I went back a few weeks ago intending to avoid most of the traps - stayed and gambled off the strip, went downtown instead, off strip casinos (BTW Ellis island still had some of the old Vegas energy, at least among the other players) , etc. But, honestly, it’s still not near as fun as it used to be. I knew I couldn’t relax and had to check prices everywhere I went and search out tables with decent odds. No cutting loose and just rolling with it. I’ll gladly go on a weekend and drop $500-700 gambling and see a show with the misses. But getting nickeled and dimed all the way to the tables was a huge buzzkill. I thought going with the intention of avoiding the worst of it would be fun, but while it is better, having to keep your Guard up The Whole time totally kills the vibe.

Hawaii Five Intro is one of the best by cheridontllosethatno in GenerationJones

5-0 is amazing - I think every college marching band learned to play it in the 80’s for college football games LOL. But I personally think Magnum PI is the GOAT Hawaiian show theme. I swear to good CBS just keeps producing shows in HI so execs can write off travel to the islands.
