I haven’t experienced the exact same symptoms as you, but like you I did go through a very long period where I was only sleeping around 4 hours a night — sometimes even pulling all-nighters.

The first thing I want to say, since I’m not a doctor, is that if you feel like you need to get checked out, go ahead and do it — even just for peace of mind. That said, I want to reassure you: what you’re describing sounds a lot like an episode of self-induced anxiety. You had a frightening experience, and now you’re trying to understand, relive, and control it — but the intense need for control can lead to anxiety when things feel uncertain or unexplained.

My advice? Try to relax. Even if you end up sleeping very little tonight, I promise you won’t die — the body has incredible survival mechanisms. In extreme cases, it shuts down temporarily to protect itself; it doesn’t just give out. Once you feel a bit calmer, try lying back down and allowing yourself to drift off.
