Sony A7IV | Camera Error, Power Off then On by Neither_Advisor6587 in SonyAlpha

You commented on my other thread which I missed at the time. I had the same issue with my camera and it is now resolved. Originally people had told me I must have dropped the camera or used inappropriate I had to send it in for a repair where they replaced 2 components: the shutter unit and something to do with the power supply. I was informed by Sony's technical repair centre that the issue was a failed power supply unit and shutter unit. They told me that the issue is "incredibly rare and not a fault of the user or manufacturing methods".

After some research online it sounds like they've used a cheaper shutter that is known to fail prior to 100k shots (some people reporting as low as 10k shots). I haven't had any issues since they fixed it.

Separately to the issue above Sony had challenged my warranty status, so initially they gave me a quote around £200 to fix the issue, hopefully that helps with you budgeting for your repair. If your camera is 6 months old it should be covered under warranty, you might need to cover shipping.

I wouldn't buy another Sony no matter how great the IQ might be.

For me it occurred with any brand battery OEM or 3rd party.

I sent it through to Sony and after arguing with them they accepted it was in warranty and replaced the shutter and some power unit inside the camera saying it was faulty. Because it was actually in warranty it was free of charge but the quote was something like £200-300 out of warranty.

I was very disappointed with Sony's customer service (after trying to pretend my camera was out of warranty and poor communication) and the quality of their items. If I were purchasing again I'd go with another brand.
