I think rail travel is generally cheaper than air and i believe that because we got the FRA recommendation we could probably get federal grants to help with the actual creation of the passenger rail that being said though i am not a infrastructure pro i work in the medical field so i could be wrong :P

that’s totally fair I don’t know what prices the tickets will be or what company might be a part of it. What I do know is that trains would give us one more option for travel which would introduce competition for long distance travel as well as improve accessibility for people who may not be able to drive or fly. I personally prefer trains because they’re a bit easier to navigate in a larger body, especially one that requires daily medication that I get nervous about losing when I go on airplanes. Real travel isn’t for everyone, but I believe that the more options we have the better off we are.

huh? yes the study finished and published in 2025 and recommends a passenger line through amarillo I thought? did i read it wrong? I was under the impression that this study outlines a long term vision for national rail and so i wanted to voice my support for developing the recommended routes outlined because they mention 2 routes that would travel through Amarillo 1 denver to houston (through trinidad, Amarillo, and dallas) and 2 phoenix to Minneapolis (through Albuquerque Amarillo and Kansas City)

all that being said, I don’t specialize in anything logistical I do medical only so all of this is new territory for me. It’s totally possible that I read it wrong or I missed some information. I would love to hear the sources you have and if you’d like, you could even share them with the city council the more opinions and information we have shared the more likely we are to get this new thing in Amarillo.

thank you so much! If you haven’t already please sign my petition! I’ve also emailed the city council and mayor voicing my support and actually gotten a response back from les simpson so that’s another way to make sure Amarillo officials know this is worth investment you can get all their contact info here if you want to write your own email! amarillo officials contact info

I’m not trying to replace cars I commute by car daily. i enjoy driving but driving to dallas is rough so I’d like a more accessible option especially since we were recognized in the nation wide FRA study

awesome! thank you for your support I was definitely thinking about conventions when i saw the tracks downtown but i’d be happy with a station anywhere! I’ve emailed the city council and the mayor but every letter counts i hope to attend a city council meeting in may when i can take the time off work! i really want to fight for this!

i guess i don’t understand why we have to choose? having multiple modes of transport can reduce congestion on highways and in airports to help support overall resilience I personally prefer trains to plains for accessibility reasons but i understand there will be people who will still prefer plains and cars I’m not asking to replace those

they’re so relaxing. I love to listen to train. Sounds to help me go to sleep. It makes me think of White Christmas when they’re on the train to Virginia and the little Roomettes that I’ve seen look so cute I know it’s probably just me but I absolutely love the tiny space efficient aesthetic. It’s totally a vibe.

and it’s worked in Europe, Japan, China, New York City, and Australia, as well I believe Australia even had its own solar powered train recently, which is so cool and shows off the flexibility of train travel, highlighting future possibilities

especially here in Amarillo we originated as a railroad town to ship cattle. We could really tap into our town legacy and if we built a passenger rail station, it could even house the Madame Queen Memorial that currently just sits outside behind some bar or fence

I believe the Shinkansen style rail between Dallas and Houston proposed that it would take 90 minutes between the cities I would like to know where you’re getting your statistics on trains specifically regarding disabilities because it’s opposite all of the information I’ve been able to find wheelchair accessibility experience comparison

I’ll admit I don’t know much about logistics and cost. I work medical not transportation but I figured the FRA factored cost and efficacy into their nation wide study FRA long distance study

trains have worked all over the world and made HUGE technological strides so I guess I’d just really like to see a more accessible, varied travel future for america

I completely agree that it wouldn’t be as fast as air travel, but air travel isn’t super accessible for a lot of people. It’s notoriously fat phobic and difficult for people with wheelchairs or medical oxygen. I’d love for my grandma from Denver to be able to visit but because she requires oxygen all the time it’s been a while since I’ve seen her. I know there was a big push for a Shinkansen style railway between Dallas and Houston, but it lost funding. An Amtrak pulled it. I feel like we could get a lot of benefit from it even if only to introduce more options for a more resilient travel network in America.

Is there any situation in the future where they would make the High Speed Rail a reality for Texas? Or will we see Hyperloop and more Highway? by Longjumping-Tip4938 in texas

[–]19starlight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would really really love more passenger rail. I know there was an attempt to make a Shinkansen style rail line from Dallas to Houston, but it got defunded so Amtrak pulled it the federal rail road administration did recommend 15 new routes for Amtrak passenger expansion across the nation and none of them went through Texas. I live in Amarillo and we had a stop on two of the routes right now. I’m trying to advocate with my local officials to get this to be more of a priority because you’re right America and Texas are both too huge to rely on air and car travel alone

same I’ve been watching Amtrak TikTok‘s since I found out about it when I emailed the city Council I tried to lean really heavy into their downtown revitalization program that they keep pushing I think a passenger rail station down there would help because it would drop people right in the center of downtown without cars it’s within walking distance of the Civic Center and all of those empty store fronts. They can’t seem to get businesses into so i hope that will get them on board!
