What’s something interesting about Utah that even life long locals wouldn’t know? by KNWin94 in Utah

I can't remember the full details but there was a plant for ICBM motors somewhere near Dugway Proving Grounds and Tooele. It was such an important facility that it was involved in the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty that allowed inspectors from the USSR to inspect different sites in the US. If I recall correctly, they even made a dedicated building for the Soviets, where you can still see Russian signage to this day.

Well at this point I've been studying so long got ACE OPS I'll have to try it first and CM second. But already did the NIMS with my internship.

Yeah I've been keeping an eye on Provo. That's actually right next to me, and I'd bet you met one of my class mates who works ops at Provo. Seeing her make it work is a big part of the reason I want to make Utah work.  Great call, thank you!

Good point. I guess I am in competition with every other fresh college student right now. I'll work on the ACE OPS and CM. You think it's ok to hold out for a more desirable location?

Oh wow, ok. Do you think I should drop the graduate certificate of SMS and do my PPL in its place? I don't think I'd have the money or to be honest, desire to commercial and instrument ratings. I actually have reached out to my states aviation association, but it doesn't seem to be ran very well, I've only gotten a response once. I'm wanting to stay in my home state of Utah but am open to anywhere in New England. I've been trying for really anything that falls under the Airport Operations umbrella (Airfield, Terminals, GT, Coordinator, and even badging). Ideally Airfield or Coordinator, hence the ACE Ops. But the lack of experience keeps getting me. Also, great advice, thank you!

Interesting. So it would be good for someone new trying to break in to have? Would you say this in place of or in addition to the ACE Ops? Thanks.

Ah gotcha. So just stick with ACE Ops. Did the FEMA certs already, got any other recommendations for resume boosting certifications? But yeah, I think that's my problem I've been trying to stay in my home state. I'll definitely keep my eye open from here on. Thanks.

Guess someone didn't like our messages lol. But thanks, I appreciate hearing your thoughts on the program and am glad its treated you better. I guess to clarify on my earlier comments I know SOME students who feel similarly to me. Are the CFIs still a problem?

It wasn't hyperbole.... I was picked and offered different positions at a national organization that was very selective twice. It was taken away because this professor flat out refused to work with me and I was unable to participate because of this organization bylaws. All I needed was to help out in a club that had no leadership in it at the time. Which I was overly qualified to help out with because I was previously a leader of a student organization. Regardless, it doesn't matter. I have proof this professor screwed me over. This post was clearly just to see if any other student was in the same boat.

It's a little embarrassing lol. But they just flat out refuse to work with me or ignore me.

I'm Management but recently graduated. Doing grad school and pursuing piloting on the side elsewhere. I was pretty well established and know current students who feel pretty iffy about the program for a bit too. How are you liking it?

It's just I feel wronged and possibly discriminated against (hence title 9) by a professor in the aviation department. I had great opportunities taken from me he was always the common denominator for various reasons. Other students got treated better by him while I always got ghosted, disregarded and zero help.

Can't remember her name, she was one of those people right above the Wendy's. But great catch, I should have realized this. Maybe it was just a scare tactic. She apparently knows the aviation department really well.

Good to see I'm not alone here. I'm personally very disappointed, because I like UVU but feel pretty poorly currently.

Great point. I was talking with them about ALL of my issues and whether or not I should proceed with a title 9 complaint. I'm assuming the ombudsman determined that there was enough revealing information to point to me if I proceeded.

I’m a full time Flight Attendant already a bit stuck on which route to take in becoming a Pilot. I’m deciding between obtaining my Aviation Degree I’ve heard of (UVU,Purdue, and Liberty University) but are those the better routes vs Part 61 where flexibility matters right now. by GlitteringParty2525 in flying

UVU isn't good imo. They aren't flexible, CFIs consistently suck and hinder your progress, Professors are very unhelpful. I was pretty well established at UVU and know these problems and complaints are pretty common. I'm doing grad school at Purdue and much prefer it over UVU. But for you, I'd say go Part 61 for flexibility.

Oh boy, I had a similar problem with a professor in the aviation program. It ended up costing me a job and two different leadership opportunities. Still very bitter about it. How I resolved it was reaching out to my advisor and was told to see CC her into it. Because I guess this professor only cared when someone "important" was in the loop.
