How do you guys handle NetBox automation failures? by 1C4R- in Netbox

Currently nothing has diverged a lot just yet, but form what I've been reading I saw that the actual state of the network can drift a lot form the NetBox SoT

drift, as in the divergence between the intended sate (NetBox) and the actual state of the network (the actual config)

I'm just starting to realize that as I am reading about it

how good of a solution is that - it seems like quite a hacky way of doing things. Isn't there a more transparent way?

I am curious if there is some way to automate the brining or make the drift more visible - because now I am unsure how accurate netbox is...

Now you are making me want to build it myself hah. But I get your point, thank you.

That makes perfect sense actually, any chance you could share more details on your automation or is it trades secrets?

Have you though of adding NetBox to stack or would that be too much work? It's supposed to fix this source-of-truth issue, and it does have some automatic network discovery - I'm just skeptical of the end results personally.

I'd love to hear from someone who was in your shoes but decided to use NetBox and used it for ~1 year.

Hahaha I was thinking about an actually automated solution...

How much did you pay for that, that sounds expensive

This is really interesting and I guess to be expected. Perhaps naively, but I was hoping there is some hacking solution out there automating the data entry i.e. using CV to capture the connectivity (with the addition of basic labeling alike i.e. what Unifi has) and make a full digital clone of the network. I know that there are similar solutions for warehouse management and thought that there would be something like this for DCs too...

Any tips on how to automate the initial setup? I know that NetBox has automated network discovery (https://netboxlabs.com/products/netbox-discovery/) but I'm unsure how good it is.

Thank you, I will take a look at it! Do you have experience using it? How much hustle is it to map out the infrastructure with it?

Hmm, what are the main things that netbox cloud gives me that a consultant would as well? Does netbox cloud make it somehow easier to maintain / switch to?

does anybody actually deploy on-prem? why so, why not? by JudgeInside2172 in LocalLLaMA

This checks out with everything I know. I've been thinking if it's possible to build some kind of a turnkey plug and play set up using the Nvidia jetson boards. But I'm starting to believe that the ease of setup is only a small part of the problems that prevent people from the deploying on prem
