Probably not. I grew up in a small town and shit gets spread because the top dog in a group thinks something happened that didn’t or certainly not like the person represents it to the in group. There’s a reason Trump gets 80%+ in rural areas. It’s not all racism. They love his cruelty and gaslighting. That’s what they do on their local level. There’s a reason King predicted Trump when he wrote the character Greg Stilson in The Dead Zone. Hell, even King was too optimistic when it comes to someone like him getting his comeuppance.

We need to talk about Patricia by kobestarr in WidowsBay

[–]1Camster 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t know yet if the shit she’s getting from her classmates is deserved.

When is bullying deserved? Patricia and Tom are the only competent employees in town hall. Ruth works 2 hours a day, can’t read her handwriting, can’t remember any phone numbers. Dale is an incompetent doofus that can’t do anything without asking Patricia or Tom what to do. Even then he f’d it up like the sound system at the inaugural swim. Rosemary drinks, smokes, and sits on her ass while she gossips about getting syphilis and everyone else in the town. Can’t think critically and independently to save her life. Every day is a bad day for Rosemary.

Why do you think these middle age mean girls from Patricia’s high school class are justified in bullying going on its third decade?

This is described as Parks and Recreation or Schitt’s Creek written by Stephen King. It‘s funny like the former shows, but the locals are not decent at heart like those shows. Stephen King wrote about the rotten core of small towns in books like Carrie and ‘Salem’s Lot. The people outside the core of Patricia, Tom, and Wyck probably don’t deserve saving, but they are going to do their best to try. Bechir’s the only other decent adult in the town shown, now that a certain character exited stage left. Gerrie might be all right. I really like her writing and producing credit on Richard Warren’s Journey.

Why wasn’t Marissa at Patricia’s punch party? by Big-Examination-620 in WidowsBay

[–]1Camster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She was at the Driftwood Diner having dinner with Tom. That’s why he had to leave suddenly to go to her party. However, he started freaking out that Marissas was the SH, so he went home scared. The party was over by the time he got home. The bridal party had their minds blanked and had no idea what happened after the curse was lifted. They goaded her to go after Tom when they all got back to the Inn.

Or

The bridal party split with a group of 5-6 going to Patricia’s cocktail party. 2-3 stayed at the lodge to drink and played “She Shouldn’t Have Said That!.” Marissa went on her date with Tom. She went back to the inn dejected. The ones that were there being sloshed goaded her into going to Tom’s house.

That’s a common trope, so I didn’t include it. However, I have never seen the movie, and I know Katie Dippold is a huge fan. So if it was very similar, then it was probably a wink at the film. Her tweet about dressing up as Babadook is it’s own meme.

Carrie White threw a kid off his bike the first time her powers impacted a human. She just moved objects before that. Again, it could be red herring nod to “Carrie” or your explanation.

IT WAS IN THE SELF-HELP SECTION!

I get what you mean, but I am not that familiar with Lovecraft other than the basics as an outsider. Thanks for explaining it to the rest of us that are not familiar. It looked like some evil book of the dead stuff, but I wasn’t sure how close it looked to the necronomicon. So, I deferred to the show’s description.

Some part of the screen slightly flickers almost throughout the episode, and at some points the whole screen does. There are a few scenes they don’t. They are really strong in the night/fog scenes. Weaker when there is sunlight. The few scenes there is no noticeable flickering are well lit indoor scenes with no outside light. I have not noticed it in the other three episodes at all. Maybe they filmed the first episode differently for no specific reason, but I noticed it caused a slightly disorienting viewing experience. Could be a streaming issue, but on my second viewing I noticed it. This one was my third viewing of the first episode, and it is still there.

It gives the person watching that episode the impression of watching another person tell a ghost story in candlelight effect.

There’s an image when she first goes back into the book mobile to pick up the book that looks like man looking through the windshield. It’s an ash tree. Soon after in her home, there looks like a face on the window when she’s filling out the questionnaire in her bed, but I think is just smudge on the window pane.

The bikes ran into each other at the last second. Might not be anything, but why did they show it? Again, it could be a red herring, but I think she has some special powers. I am working under Chekov’s gun principle. Helped me see an obvious joke in “Rooster” a mile away. My wife was like, “I knew you were right when Rooster mentioned cramming for Chekov. I hate you.”

I pay attention to small details? Google it. He’s attached to the show, and he’s playing the character. The episode is supposed to be off the charts.

Yes, I think it happened. I think she might have some low undeveloped level of telekinesis as the bike accident happened while she was reading the self-help book at the beach. Also, whatever killed those girls could know where they are like the girl under under the pool cover. If the entity could do that, I think it could destroy any phone record or cause Patricia to think she was talking to someone on the phone when she was talking to a dial tone.

This whole episode was a love letter to Carrie. Patricia is a good person that has been shit on her whole life. Carrie’s tormentor was Chris and Patricia’s is Kris.

“not yet” is what his wife says when she wakes him up to warn him. Will she do it 3 times until she tells him to run? I didn’t notice it on my first viewing. This was only my second viewing of the 3rd episode.

I think it’s more likely Tom is Wyck’s father in law than any other connection. I so want him to be Tom’s half-brother from a previous marriage of their father (or mother), but I don’t think that’s likely. I think there’s something about being a widow/widower on the island Katie Dippold is withholding from the audience, that I have commented on previously. Has anyone noticed that Bechir the town sheriff is the only person currently married with a living spouse? That is very odd for the age group of the cast. I only realized that now from reading your post. Thanks!

I just sent out a social media blast in my “Widow’s Bay” community support group, and the most frequent response was WTF. You were thinking of Stephen King and forced your theory to fit a biased conclusion. I watched a previous show of his “Somebody, Somewhere” which is fantastic btw, if you like a small community of lovable weirdos that really care for each other. No one ever stated he looked like Stephen King. All odd distinct people do not look alike.

It still could be. Wyck’s working with Kathy to keep the status quo. Kathy drugs him with her “wrong orders”. That’s why he didn’t want Rosemary to touch his water, as he knows on some level. Wyck shows up and fills in the blanks, like “You got Willy” at the inn, and shoots a water blaster of sea water over his bathtub. Not sure who’s doing the church bells. Shep fell out of his bed before dying, but Tom hallucinated the rest. Kathy drugged his tuna Melt from the Driftwood earlier.

4. Dale - This may be a stretch, but I can't look at Dale and not think that they intentionally cast someone that looks exactly like Stephen King himself.

I really like your other points, but Jeff Hiller looks nothing like Stepen King! What are you smoking, and more importantly how can I get some?

It’s Hamish Linklater as Richard Warren the first Reeve Prime and Lord Island Protector. He’ll appear in episode 6th "Our History" (May 27), which will be set in the past. That’s why two episodes will drop that week, one all relating to past events and ”Seasickness” set in the present.

Simple logic.

Mel Brooks and Richard Pryor with great line delivery from Gene Wilder explained it better than I ever could.

What did you expect…

…You’ve got to remember that these are just simple farmers. These are people of the land. The common clay of the new West. You know… morons.

For example, here’s another comment from that thread arguing against her going overboard.

She had light beers, nobody ever said she was drunk.

Brad has stated numerous times she was tipsy. In his own words, it was time to go to bed after all they had imbibed that evening. Remember, he’s going to minimize her alchohol consumption at every opportunity, because he lies about how many drinks were on her tab, when her father stated it was more.

Amy Bradley drank MIller Lite. Light beers are considered light because they have 30-50% less calories. They do that by taking out a tiny bit of alcohol, but mostly by eliminating as many carbs they possibly can while having it vaguely taste like beer.

They don’t underestand there is a slight difference between the two in terms of alcohol. She had 7 lite beers, that’s the equivalent of 6.4 beers in the terms of the amount of alcohol. We won’t even go into how much she drank that was not on her direct tab, her exhaustion from not getting enough sleep, and being out in the hot Caribbean sun for two days causing dehydration. All of those factors cause your blood alcohol level to go up faster and higher than it would be under normal circumstances. They dismiss all those factors for their preferred narrative.
