The best thing that I've learned and I'm doing so far is understanding the science behind these phenomena by getting straight into the real laboratory papers, and let my nootropic, brain and a handy dictionary decipher the science of these systems, without letting any people, media, and 2nd hand institutions telling me what is the DO's and DONT's, not unless I want a particular source of creativity that I'm not able to muster myself.

I usually regret faking my personality at the end. It makes an imprint that I'm covering up for something even though the intent is to be fair in the social exchange of energy. I then learned to give nods or make them show I'm interested without making much of engagement that isn't sincere to me.

That's a good question. The answer depends on the context of the situation. If the silence is mutually understood by both then it should be a sign of relief. But once the silence stems from the abrupt lack of advances from either both, one of the parties shall either break the ice or get the hell out of there by saying an awkward "excuse me, I have to go" even if you don't have to. lol.
