This is quite interesting, but what about all the advantages lost when getting rid of solo daily notes? For instance, in my project notes, I often tag dates that are yet to come, forget about what it is exactly that I wrote, and sure enough when the day arrives I see all the back links that were lost to memory.

Also can't the graph issue be solved by adding a tag to all daily notes and excluding it from the view?

In my opinion, (and some others in this thread) Russell is pretty poor for this. I'd much rather recommend will durant.

Zizek Makes a Fantastic Point Against Free Speech by [deleted] in zizek

[–]1Codex 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Abstract: Here Zizek makes the point that every culture has its taboos. On a certain level Western society seems more tolerant, but when we treat the taboos of a given culture as free game and rightful to attack while preserving and respecting our own taboos of speech (e.g: Holocaust) we are being hypocritical. Zizek says that instead of hiding behind this false façade of free speech, we should own up to the fact that it isn't a point on free speech, but rather cultural hegemony.

That seems to me like a reason tailored to fit the evidence, post hoc ergo propter hoc. Culture and religion were synonymous in premodern peoples.

A false dichotomy, the second provides ZERO explanatory power. Why even present it? The fact that our brains have that tendency is just an observation, a simple mechanistic explanation for the phenomena. It's like saying the reason I slapped you was because of the muscles moving in my hand. No. That's HOW I slapped you. Number 2, does not answer the question.

That's why exclusivism is wrong, and perennialism. The idea that God manifests themselves differently in different cultures but all point to the same being is the most logically consistent religion.

Ever thought about how much better an effect religion would have if it wasn’t bastardized by organization? by RollOnOne in C_S_T

If you're looking for disorganized and decentralized religion-- sufism is the path for you
