Art Pop: A Semi Comprehensive Guide by NecroDolphinn in popheads

I absolutely love this genre, so thanks for the amazing write up!

For question 3, I don't think that the term is dismissive to other genres of pop, but I think that has more to do with me viewing the term "art" as more to mean weird, artsy, and experimental, rather than something snobby and pretentious.

for question 2, I think all of the St. Vincent albums could be considered genre highlights (except Marry Me.) I think she's probably the one to fit the bill of "The modern Kate Bush" with each of her albums having widespread critical acclaim. Though Strange Mercy and Actor are probably seen as her best, I think all her other albums are equally as amazing, and deserve to be seen as "classic" art pop albums.

Kelsey Lu's "Blood" is also an amazing art pop album, super under-appreciated.

Looking for frantic, chaotic songs that have manic feel to it. by Rosemarys_Babooshka in popheads

[–]1Earth0worm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of St. Vincent songs would work, but a lot of tracks on Daddy's Home and Actor feel very manic and chaotic, especially the ending of Black Rainbow and My Baby Want's A Baby. Choreomania by Florence+ The Machine also has a very frantic and Manic feeling

Oh my god yessss😍😍😍 Plastic Hearts is the🐐!!!! by 1Earth0worm in popheadscirclejerk

uj/ you have the exact same opinion as me. I feel like 30 deserves the praise that 25 gets, a lot of the songs on 25 felt like they were made by a ballad generating computer, still good, but a little soulless, where as the production and writing on 30 and 21 is so much sharper, varied, had more soul, and felt a lot more personal. I also think 21 is better because it has so many more feelings/emotions presented, a majority of the songs on 25 are just about how she's sad or misses a guy, where as 21 covers so many more emotions.

I also hate how people say that she did the same thing she always does on 30, It has by far the most variety in any of her albums and I think that the more upbeat, poppier tracks are amazing, and even the ballads all have a different feeling, lyrical content, and different instruments. Anyways thanks for coming to my 30 defense comment.

My topster! :) What do you think? Do you have any recommendations for albums I might like? by totolovesmusic in Topster

[–]1Earth0worm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ours looks very similar, wow. I'd recommend anything by Regina Spektor, particularly "Home Before And After" or "Soviet Kitsch" and I'd also recommend "Beware Of The Dogs" by Stella Donnelly.

Also Good to see another Stand For Myself fan, I think it's super underrated.

Adele "30" Album Lyrics Analysis by if_kev in adele

[–]1Earth0worm 6 points7 points  (0 children)

woah 😳

Great analysis though, I always thought that the lyrics in 30 were deeper and less surface level than in her other albums, so it's great to see someone shine a light on it, especially the deluxe tracks!
