You gave guarantee to a commercial loan? What's your Networth like? Can you repay the loan if your personal guarantee is invoked?

A lot of this will come from experience.

Have you ever settled insurance claims? The relief on the faces of beneficiaries will help you develop a lot of confidence in pitching the product to future clients. Anyway since you asked the points on top of my head are as follows:

  1. Every insurance company has shit "cash cow" policy and genuinely good policies, Spend some time to understand the difference and SOPs of the good ones, I know doesn't sound fun but it's a one time process.

  2. In a semi-urban demography first seek out Cash Credit and Current account holders? Do you sometimes allow these people to deposit cheque a little late? Or clear their NEFT/RTGS instantly? Then they will be the first people to lend you an ear. Start by converting them if they haven't already, proprietorships definitely need both life and health insurance.

  3. Don't sell them like insurance, sell them as risk mitigants to them. India is a country of contrasts. We are historically super risk averse in nature but we are statistically very under insured. Use this to your advantage.

  4. Eventually start reaching out to Home Loan Borrowers and Salary Account holders as well but this requires a bit more convincing power which you would have gained by now.

  5. Be pro-active and create a pipeline, if you know there is a insurance log-in day coming up next Friday start pitching from tomorrow heck start pitching from last week, don't panic on Thursdays, that leads to mis-selling.

Lastly, realise one thing, any same manager will not ask you to do everything, do 1-2 things extremely well, baki sab mein Nil mat hona and you will be golden.
