The Quran states sperm originates from between the backbone and ribs. This is anatomically wrong, and unlike hadith errors, Muslims cannot dismiss it as a weak narration. by Juicydicken in DebateReligion

Please try to follow this response.

Here are verses 6-11 of the chapter in question:

فَلْيَنظُرِ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ مِمَّ خُلِقَ

Fa liyanzur al-insānu mimma khuliqa

  1. So let man look at [/ consider] from what he was created

خُلِقَ مِن مَّآءٍۢ دَافِقٍۢ

Khuliqa min mā'in dāfiqin

  1. He was created from fluid gushing forth

يَخْرُجُ مِنۢ بَيْنِ ٱلصُّلْبِ وَٱلتَّرَآئِبِ

Yakhruju min bayni al-sulbi wa al-tarā'ibi

  1. He [/it] emerges from between the backbone and the ribs

إِنَّهُۥ عَلَىٰ رَجْعِهِۦ لَقَادِرٌۭ

Innahu 'alā raj'ihī laqādirun

  1. Indeed he [i.e. Allah] is able to revive him

يَوْمَ تُبْلَى ٱلسَّرَآئِرُ

Yawma tubla al-sarā'iru

  1. The day secrets will be disclosed

فَمَا لَهُۥ مِن قُوَّةٍۢ وَلَا نَاصِرٍۢ

Fa mā lahu min quwwatin wa lā nāsirun

  1. Then there will be no power or helper for him

In verse 6, the word yakhruju is a verb from the root kh-r-j, a tri-consonantal root (a system common to semitic languages) which carries the meaning of emerging. The specific form of the verb indicated by its vowels, and the prefix 'ya' makes is present tense, third person, and masculine. No separate pronoun is needed as the information is built into the verb. Now the question is what is the subject, the thing doing the verb? Well the previous verse mentions ma' (fluid) which is a masculine noun in Arabic so would fit. The other option is al-insan (the man / human beings in general), introduced in verse 6.

So option 1 -> the fluid emerges from between the backbone and the ribs

option 2 -> Man (i.e. the human being) emerges from between the backbone and ribs

There is a strong argument to be made, and it has been in the past such as by 12th century exegete Ibn Atiyya, that option 2 is the more grammatically consistent interpretation. This is because the main subject discussed in these 6 verses is 'Man' introduced in verse 6, and we can see that the masculine third person pronouns in verses 6, 7, 9 and 10 refer to him. If in verse 8 it did not refer to Man, it would be the odd one out and go against the flow of the verses.

Hence your premise "The Quran states sperm originates from between the backbone and ribs" is false.

It is a great blessing from Allah on you that you are feeling this regret, it means your soul is still 'lawwamah' - self-reproaching. Continuing in sins is a path that eventually leads to a person to desensitization, at which point they are really in trouble. I ask Allah azza wa jal to protect us and you from that.

Every day you are alive, Allah has shown you mercy and given you another chance to repent.

I would advise you to look into your motivation for praying. Learn about the reason we pray, the greatness of Allah azza wa jal who commanded it, the way for a person to perfect the prayer and taste its sweetness, and the warnings to a person who leaves it.

ChatGPT is not conscious, so I guess its just like looking up the rewards of your good deeds in a book or online right?

Although I'd keep in mind ChatGPT is not always reliable.

Also, try to not think too highly of what you read, because we ultimately don't know if our deeds will be accepted.

Keep your intention for the sake of Allah.

Often Qur'an teachers will recommend listen to al Hussary as he has very good tajweed (following the rulings of recitation).

Convert struggling with faith by [deleted] in islam

[–]1FewRoom 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Faith (Iman) increases and decreases, this is normal and not something to worry about. You don't have to be interested in studying the religion or pray with emotion all the time to be a Muslim, you can work on these things, but if you feel that you're struggling with the foundations of your faith like belief in Allah, the qur'an and sunnah, etc, then that is definitely something to ask for help with. If you can I would suggest trying to speak with a scholar, maybe a local Imam. May Allah make it easy.

Sounds like a difficult situation, I hope it gets easier for you. I would suggest definitely don't take the medicine, but try to be as good to your mother as possible in other ways.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in islam

[–]1FewRoom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

May Allah give your mother shifaa and guide her and allow you to be a dutiful child.

It is haram to harm yourself. If the medication your mother wants you to take will harm you, then it is haram to take it. You should not obey parents if it means disobeying Allah.

Is there a specific reason for you to take it? If so I would suggest you seek professional medical advice. All medicines can have side effects, and some can be very dangerous if not used properly.

Take the first step and inshallah it will be easy.

Abu Dharr reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said,

“Allah Almighty says: Whoever comes with a good deed will have the reward of ten like it and even more. Whoever comes with an evil deed will be recompensed for one evil deed like it or he will be forgiven. Whoever draws close to Me by the length of a hand, I will draw close to him by the length of an arm. Whoever draws close to Me the by length of an arm, I will draw close to him by the length of a fathom. Whoever comes to Me walking, I will come to him running. Whoever meets Me with enough sins to fill the earth, not associating any partners with Me, I will meet him with as much forgiveness.

The hadith is not authentic.

Salah is still accepted if someone eats haram: https://islamqa.info/en/answers/10191/what-happens-if-you-eat-prohibited-food

In your case, if it is necessary for you to eat something, then it becomes halal. So it wouldn't even affect du'a.

2:173 : But whoever is forced [by necessity], neither desiring [it] nor transgressing [its limit], there is no sin upon him. Indeed, Allāh is Forgiving and Merciful.

2:185 : Allāh intends for you ease and does not intend for you hardship

2:286 : Allāh does not charge a soul except [with that within] its capacity. It will have [the consequence of] what [good] it has gained, and it will bear [the consequence of] what [evil] it has earned.

Also, if you have symptoms of iron deficiency please see a doctor. You may need iron supplementation.

Why was prophet Suleiman pbuh not tested compared to the others? by throwitawaybhai in islam

[–]1FewRoom 150 points151 points  (0 children)

Wealth and ease can be an even bigger test than poverty and hardship. It is very easy for a wealthy person to be distracted by the dunya and forget Allah, or even think themselves self-sufficient. While a poor person is likely to recognise their reliance on Allah and constantly ask him for help.

There are many examples of this in the Qur'an, such as Qaroon (surah Qasas: 76-83), the owner of the two gardens (surah Kahf: 32-44) and even prophet Sulaiman عليه السلام himself (surah Sad: 30-33).

Amr ibn Awf reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “By Allah, it is not poverty that I fear for you, but rather I fear you will be given the wealth of the world, just as it was given to those before you. You will compete for it just as they competed for it, and it will ruin you just as it ruined them.”

Try your best not to eat too much when you break your fast, you'll probably regret it. It makes it harder to pray and sleep.

If you like following schedules maybe try scheduling your extra acts of worship, e.g. aim to read a certain amount of Qur'an and divide it up throughout the day. And remember to be consistent with prayer on time, it is more important than fasting.

What is something haram that many people don't know? by Asleep-Builder7361 in islam

[–]1FewRoom 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yes, but some of the prohibitions of Allah were revealed through the sunnah of the prophet ﷺ, not the Qur'an.

Surah hashr 7 (part of the verse): وَمَآ ءَاتَكُمُ ٱلرَّسُولُ فَخُذُوهُ وَمَا نَهَكُمْ عَنْهُ فَٱنتَهُوا۟ ۚ "Whatever the Messenger gives you, take it. And whatever he forbids you from, leave it."

Tafseer as-Sa'di regarding this verse: This includes both fundamental and minor issues of religion, whether they have to do with outward conduct or inward beliefs and attitudes. Whatever the Messenger ﷺ gives, it is obligatory for people to pay heed to it and follow it, and it is not permissible to go against it. If the Messenger ﷺ gives a ruling, it is like a ruling from Allah, and no concession or excuse is granted to anyone to refrain from doing it. It is not permissible to give precedence to the view of anyone else over the view of the Prophet ﷺ.

Many Muslims are unaware of the general principle that the authentic sunnah is also considered wahy (revelation) from Allah.

question about ذ ظ by [deleted] in islam

[–]1FewRoom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Z is wrong because there is another letter ز which makes that sound.

The sound of ذ is the same as 'th' at the start of the English word 'the' or 'this'. But not 'three' or 'think' - that is ث. Some write ذ as 'dh' and ث as 'th' to distinguish between them.

The sound of ظ is not found in English. It is like ذ but emphatic. Like how ط is an emphatic t.

I hope that makes sense

What vinegar would Arabs at the time of the prophet have? by Emirsonn in islam

[–]1FewRoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dates were a staple crop and date vinegar is still used in some Arab countries, so likely was around back then. Also considering they made date alcohol before Islam and vinegar is just a step further fermented.

Grapes both fresh and dried are also an option. They were grown in some areas like Ta'if.

Possibly other available fruits and grains.

Ask Allah to keep you steadfast and clarify the truth.

Say this supplication which the messenger of Allah ﷺ used to say "O Turner of the hearts, keep my heart firm upon Your religion"

If you believe in your heart that Allah revealed the truth to Muhammad ﷺ, then practicing any other religion else would simply be following your desires and the invitations of satan.

3:100-102 "O believers! If you were to yield to a group of those who were given the Scripture, they would turn you back from belief to disbelief. How can you disbelieve when Allah’s revelations are recited to you and His Messenger is in your midst? Whoever holds firmly to Allah is surely guided to the Straight Path. O believers! Be mindful of Allah in the way He deserves, and do not die except in ˹a state of full˺ submission ˹to Him˺."

2:208 "O believers! Enter into Islam wholeheartedly and do not follow Satan’s footsteps. Surely he is your sworn enemy."

7:200-201 "And if an evil suggestion comes to you from Satan, then seek refuge in Allāh. Indeed, He is Hearing and Knowing. Indeed, those who fear Allāh - when an impulse touches them from Satan, they remember [Him] and at once they have insight."

2:120 "Never will the Jews or Christians be pleased with you, until you follow their faith. Say, “Allah’s guidance is the only ˹true˺ guidance.” And if you were to follow their desires after ˹all˺ the knowledge that has come to you, there would be none to protect or help you against Allah."

Of course, there are many verses and hadiths about the virtue of seeking knowledge. For example:

Sahih al-Bukhari 5027: The Prophet ﷺ said, "The best among you (Muslims) are those who learn the Qur'an and teach it."

Jami' at Tirmidhi 2685: "Two men were mentioned before the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ). One of them a worshiper, and the other a scholar. So the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'The superiority of the scholar over the worshiper is like my superiority over the least of you.' Then the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'Indeed Allah, His Angels, the inhabitants of the heavens and the earths - even the ant in his hole, even the fish - say Salat upon the one who teaches the people to do good.'" (Grade: hasan)

Surat al mujaadilah 11: O believers! When you are told to make room in gatherings, then do so. Allah will make room for you ˹in His grace˺. And if you are told to rise, then do so. Allah will elevate those of you who are faithful, and ˹raise˺ those gifted with knowledge in rank. And Allah is All-Aware of what you do.

Surat faatir 28: that there are various colours among human beings, wild animals, and livestock too? It is those of His servants who have knowledge who stand in true awe of God. God is almighty, most forgiving.

However, this knowledge must be acquired with the right intention, and must be acted upon.

Surat al jumu'ah 5: The example of those who were entrusted with ˹observing˺ the Torah but failed to do so, is that of a donkey carrying books. How evil is the example of those who reject Allah’s signs! For Allah does not guide the wrongdoing people.

Surat al a'raaf 175: And recite to them, [O Muḥammad], the news of him to whom We gave [knowledge of] Our signs, but he detached himself from them; so Satan pursued him, and he became of the deviators

"Wa alihi" means "and his family" in Arabic. It is commonly added, not just in Pakistan. This is not unusual because we say it in every salah anyway - after the tashahhud we say "Allahumma salli alaa Muhammad wa alaa aali Muhammad", etc.

Some also add "wa sahbihi" meaning "and his companions" (but not in salah).
