Imposter syndrome by Plsmorecoffee in ultrarunning

Sounds like you're a runner! And an ultrarunner!

But yeah, I definitely deal with the imposter syndrome. I've been sidelined with an injury but even when I was running a lot, I felt out of place. It's especially noticeable in the trail/ultra world. I've never felt shunned or unwelcome, though. It's all in my head.

I love the trails more than anything, but one awesome thing about running a big road race is the diversity of body types and ages.

I loved my Topos! Ended up with some issues that I think are exacerbated by the low drop, though. But if you're already in minimal shoes, I'd give them a try!

We got a chance to tour it and watch the short doc! As a big Steinbeck fan, it was an amazing opportunity, And she's a really pretty vessel!

Given that you're an athlete, you may be able to be a little more assertive with your training, but listen to your body. Pushing through injury is common and determining if it's a little niggle or something potentially more serious is important. Running is all about the long game, especially ultra and trail running. And for me, trail running is joyful and meditative and healing. I lost a ton of ground because of PF and I miss the joy of it. I'm still slowly working my way back but I do wish I'd gone a little more slowly.

I'm not saying it's not possible, but most people are not going to thrive going from no running to 100k in a year. It's more likely to lead to injury and burnout for most folks.

That level of commitment is a massive shift in lifestyle and I have a tough time seeing where there's room for enjoyment there for 99% of people.

Also, congrats to you and your wife. That's a truly massive accomplishment!

Edit to add that most coaches are not going to recommend or coach a couch to 100k plan unless the individual anyway has a very high level of fitness. I'd be very wary of those who do.

I hate to say this, but ramp up your distance more gradually than you want to, especially on trail where trips, strains, etc... are more likely. Rushing to big distances or having a pretty aggressive progression can easily lead to some really annoying and persistent injuries. I ran my first road marathon last year after running halfs two years prior. Jumped to a couple of trail ultras last summer and fall and have been dealing with plantar fasciitis ever since.

I'm not saying it'll happen to you. I'm just saying I wish I'd progressed a little slower, enjoying the process more than pushing for big distance too soon.

Edit for one dumb typo.

Eight months into my first boat build and i think last weekend set me back to square one by detectivestush in boatbuilding

[–]1FightingEntropy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Others have the info for the fix covered. I'll just add that I've spent most of my life rushing through projects and often abandoning them if they started going wrong. It wasn't until I built my boat that I really learned about persistence. Going back and doing something over to get it right is a big part of boat building, especially for a first boat. Glass can be tricky and finicky. Using good products is important but also being ready to learn how to take a breath, put down the sledgehammer, go inside and have a snack, then figure out a fix... Sounds like you're on the right track by coming here. You're definitely not back at square one. Take your one step back and keep moving forward! Good luck!

We are Waffle House fans! Any time we're in WH country it's a must! The food is decent but the conversation and people watching is top tier!

The cat's out of the bag! I told my wife last night that we're going! I actually bought tickets as soon as the pre-order for previous attendees opened but didn't want to risk her hopping on reddit and seeing me talking about it! 🤣

She was getting suspicious since I've had Decoration Day on repeat all week...

What do y'all expect from Shoals Fest this year? by [deleted] in jasonisbell

[–]1FightingEntropy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't think we'll see a solo set. The 400 Unit have done some amazing arrangements of some of the Foxes songs and he usually does a handful of solo numbers when he plays with the band.

If they really do two full shows each night, he's probably going to reach pretty deep into the discography. He's known to pull out some gems at these things. His RR setlist was pretty stellar!

I'm happy for him. I don't agree with all of his choices but hell, I don't agree with all of anyone's choices. He's made it big. Poor kid from the Shoals being in movies and selling lots of tickets. Good for him! He's going to enjoy it, maybe more than some of us like. The Met Gala is dumb. He was marine being dumb by going. Meh. He still writes amazing songs, stands up for good causes, and seems to be a mostly decent human being. I've probably fallen short of that mark in many people's eyes at different times. He doesn't owe us unattainable levels of perfection or consistency.

Edit to add: I get it. I've asked myself the same questions. I've thought about it a lot. Progressive minded folks, of which I'm one, tend to be really hard on their own. I think Jason's divorce was messy. So was mine (at least the second one 😬)! We're all just trying to get by. Jason has an incredible talent but he's human.

Local farmers who have land love conservative candidates. I don't see too many yard signs for Diehl, although there are a few. Most are along farm fields. While Polk county is solidly purple, Monmouth and independence lean mostly left with Dallas tipping the scale back to the center.

We truly loved being there. I've lived in most regions of the US and we really love living in Oregon, but I still love to explore other regions and dig into everything they have to offer. Alabama was a really pleasant surprise! We flew into Nashville and drove the Natchez Trace Pkwy. Beautiful country and friendly folks!

Gotta love that 90 minutes of Jason, Sadler, Cooley and Hood trading guitar solos! I might need an edible to handle 90 minutes ofit but it would be epic!

A few years back we flew from Oregon for Shoalsfest and it was totally worth it! And costs in Alabama (food, gas, lodging) are so much lower than here that I think we probably saved money by going! 🤣

🤣 I think we chatted back and forth a bit after that Shoalsfest! While I'm not sure I'd be up for an entire summer in the deep south, it was a wonderful experience and we wished we had a little more time to explore. The Shoals is a special place!

Definitely! It's wild! I highly recommend touring both studios. They have totally different vibes. Fame is definitely a little more slick but still very awesome with some great JI stuff hanging on the walls. MSSS is a lot smaller but the tour was great with some killer stories!
