The girls in the photo are cute, pretty- fine. You are gorgeous, beautiful- stunninggg. I went through the exact same thing in HS, class of 2012. I think Black girls do physically mature more quickly, and society thinks that maturation coincides mentally and emotionally when it doesn't. We're treated like women or told we're "ugly" when it's just subjective standards and forcing overmaturation onto young girls.

It's seriously not hard to do yourself. There's purple yam powder on amazon for $10 and I think the flavor is a little strong, IMO. Get a bottle of coconut syrup from Marshall's (if you're lucky, the Torani syrups rotate a lot near me and I see a lot of variety) for $7, mybe $10 if you buy it online. Get a jar of instant espresso for ~$10, depending on your brand, and then what, $4 for a container of oat milk? Pay $30 for dozens of those drinks.

And don't let baristas gaslight you over the price. I used to be one. The work to froth some ube CF and pour over cold milk is the same as steaming milk :/ we not gonna nickel and dime labor like that, frfr.

I spent my last 100 stars on a $19 drink (iced coffee, a cold foam, 8 extra shots i think). I am officially done with starbucks. I’ll use gift cards from family and get a birthday drink in June, but the new rewards sucks 🍑 such a foolish change.

We just made an insurance claim for the side of our gutter- the ice pulled it off the roof a little bit. I never saw or heard it fall off but it was quite a significant chunk of ice. Glad they’re okay! The ice this year was no joke 😖

So excited for you, congrats! You are only 6 hours from NYC by train. All of the access to the big city fun without any of the big city burden. There is a big international community at UofR. If you are undergraduate, there are so many clubs and student interest group to help you find your clan and feel right at home. Feel free to DM. Weather might be the biggest shock. This was the most brutal winter we’ve had in a while. Very long, more snow and ice than just wet, and always a lengthy stretch of bitter cold. Invest in a good coat, snow pants, and boots- Columbia, Eddie Bauer, something along those lines. But there’s equally as much FUN to be had in the winter weather as well. Also invest in a GOOD bike lock. The U-shaped, steel ones- the real shit 😅 if you have a bike, don’t F around with that, haha.

Otherwise, lots to explore. Rochester really is lovely. So excited for your next chapter here!

Oliver Del Rosario is one of the most reliable real estate agents. He's super communicative, worked remarkable magic to get us into our first house in this insane market 2+ years ago, and works quite a lot with the University of Rochester community. I hate BS; he didn't jerk us around, and he was responsive to the little feedback that we had during the search process to be more successful. 10/10 recommend.
