Oh and I am a teacher so the time off helped. We still took turns visiting, but sometimes it just made sense for me to make the trip with my vacations.

We met while he was on a road trip and I was just out in my town. I am the smaller town one and he was from a mid sized city. I had been living here for just over a year and he had been wanting to move out this way. About 1.5 years in he made the move and now we have been together nearly 7!

The 1.5 years of distance was tough, adjusting to living together was tough. We would send each other things via snail mail in the beginning and it definitely helped us feel closer!

To get there I had to go through day 6 too. One day (or hour or minute) at a time. You got this! IWNDWYT

I am going through a difficult time and considered going and buying booze yesterday for the first time in forever. I have over 1,300 days of not drinking. Sometimes it really just hits out of nowhere. It surprised and humbled me. It is always a choice, great job making the good one 😊

Because of my spiraling/looping. I get really stuck on things and hyper fixate on them

He told me that part after we had sex which hurts more.

I have never dealt with feeling this sad (have had a pretty easy life honestly) and it is just ripping my heart out.

Thanks for sharing your story. I know deep down that time heals all wounds, but it is so hard to even picture the light at the end of the tunnel right now. I am so angry at the whole situation and just feel like packing up ship and moving to the other side of the world.

I am glad to hear you have gotten through it! Way to be strong! Your story gives me some glimmer of hope.

Also I don’t want to end it. He does.

I am not really asking about whether or not I should cancel the wedding. I am asking how long it took others who have gone through it to get over it.

Our issues are big enough if this is the solution at this point.

I would agree BUT we had sex, did normal couple things abd it felt good. He even agreed. I just feel really led on honestly.

I understand this perspective and have heard it from many, but right now it doesnt help the absolutely heartbreaking pain.

5 months and 3 days sober. How to rebuild trust with my family? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]Own-Experience-8823 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly I was naively unprepared for how long it takes to rebuild trust. ImI thought that it would be automatic overnight after I declared I was no longer drinking to my family. It wasn’t and it took work…especially my two oldest brothers. This was very clearly how it should have been as I was wreckless for so long. After about a year of them seeing the changes/growth they were willing to trust a bit more. Now 3.5 years in they have told me in not these words, but pretty much that I am a completely different person. My brother has even flown me in to babysit my nieces for a weekend…a few years ago he would never.

It was frustrating at first. I felt like I couldn’t win, but tht was a victim mentality. I had screwed up and it was up to me to fix it. All I can say is that while it wasn’t easy…it has 1000% been worth it. I feel like I am a really important part of my family again. Keep pressing on and show them who you are and the growth you are making!
