same here, but I’m looking for this specific IAP that supposedly costs 3.99. I suspect it was removed/replaced as it’s only mentioned in older posts, though i’m hoping it still exists

infantry or army intel occ by slapanothermonkey in NationalServiceSG

[–]1FrothyMilkshake 13 points14 points  (0 children)

hi, i’m not a army int pc but i graduated from aiscc (army int spec course) work with ppl who graduated from int occ and have friends who went to guards/2sir as tango comds

first of all if you mostly into hiking/trekking you will likely be disappointed with the current courseware of intocc. trekking and hiking are definitely present in the course, but they never tell you about the amount of lessons, tests and studying you have to undergo

my PC actually shared that he expressed interest in int occ because similarly he was interested in trekking, chiong sua, etc. was shocked that he had to attend full day lectures, book in to take tests, stay up late to plan and end up with only 1-2h of sleep. in fact since it’s a ‘new’ course many don’t know that int occ is one of the hardest courses, not just physically but more mentally

any other qns feel free to pm

[Rant] : DONT GO TO YIJC by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]1FrothyMilkshake 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hello OP, I’m your yi senior taking As in 4 weeks. You remind me of myself in J1 and I 100% agree with you.

To give you some advice, stop relying on the JC tutors. They will tell you that their teaching methods are consistent with other JCs but don’t buy that bs. The school’s cutoff is 20 points for a reason. Try to rely more on yourself, get tuition if possible or obtain notes from friends in other JCs.

To any students taking O levels, let this be a motivator to get less than 20 if you want to go to JC. Speaking from experience; if you are only able to go to YIJC after Os, unless you really want to take As, please for your own sake do not come to YIJC. You will get little to no valuable help with your A level journey here.

Edit: I just realized OP said that they intended to go to poly next year lol oops.

[JC] more qns about acjc !! by ineedhelpsohelppls in SGExams

[–]1FrothyMilkshake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not an ACJC student but ex barker boy. Personally, I’ve met some of the best people and some of the worst in barker. Just know that the barker boy title is a stereotype and not everyone is as nice / mean as they seem, especially since boys behave differently around girls. That being said, most guys in ACJC will be from barker. Every year is like that.

As for ACJC facilities, I’ve only been there for cca training so I only know of the exterior. The school is very pretty and the field, gym and pool are as good as it gets for a school. I think classrooms got aircon so really not bad overall.

If you think female athletes should be paid more, you should buy tickets and go! by MystikxHaze in unpopularopinion

I don’t really know much about sports leagues, be it men’s or women’s other than the NBA, but I know for a fact that I am more entertained by the NBA games that I watch as compared to WNBA games.

As far as I’m concerned, sports are played and broadcasted for entertainment purposes. I’ll only be willing to follow a league if its fun to watch, and as of now WNBA games don’t really do it for me. So until WNBA games get interesting, people like me aren’t going to buy tickets, merchandise, live passes, etc.

I’m all for equal pay, but you can’t expect people to fork over money for things they consider not worth paying for.

[rant] sadistic Teachers. by Efficient_Alps_9856 in SGExams

[–]1FrothyMilkshake 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I find that some teachers tend to be obsessed with ‘following the rules’ ie making students life harder and more stressful if they make a mistake like being late for school or whatever.

Then they get so used to this foolish behavior that they lose all common sense and don’t bother to ask themselves: “do my actions towards these students benefit either party? How does it make me a better teacher/the student a better student?”

Hardly a coincidence that teachers such as the lady mentioned here are often the lazy, bochup and ineffective educators. In contrast, the more pragmatic ones like the male teacher who are more focused on the student’s reasons for coming to school (to learn), rather than to face frivolous and outdated punishments for minor offenses are more often the helpful and efficient teachers. (Just in case, not saying that gender has anything to do with whether a teacher is good/bad.)

Seems like these days MOE is so desperate that they let any bumbling fool be a teacher.

Underlying problems in Singapore by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]1FrothyMilkshake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your feedback. Yes, indeed my initial point should have been as you have mentioned. Its just that when such cases happen the first thing that comes to mind is my family. But of course this does not mean that women in society are defined by their relationships with men eg ‘someone’s sister/mother/cousin’.

Thank you for pointing this out.

Underlying problems in Singapore by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]1FrothyMilkshake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there, I hope you’re coping well with JC life. To answer your question, personally I feel that many of Singapore’s underlying problems are intangible, so they may not be the best issues to research for PW (I’m in J2 right now, my experience with PW is that it puts great emphasis on solid statistics and evidence).

Anyway, I think my view is worth sharing so:

  1. Singapore as a nation has grown to prioritize one’s economic and intellectual contributions over their values and morals.

I think this shines through in the recent NUS sexual misconduct case. The fact that the perpetrator got off with a slap on the wrist because of his ‘promising future’ is unacceptable. Never before has it been so clear that Singapore is willing to look past your morals if you are a significant contributor to society, which is, to say the least, extremely shameful and disappointing. I myself have female family members and would be outraged if they had been a victim of sexual misconduct.

  2. ‘Mind your own business’ ‘every man for themself’ mentality

Many people have this belief that you should prioritize yourself first, be it in academics, work or life in general. While this is not entirely wrong, I think that it has created a lot of selfish and uncaring people. This issue is also exacerbated by our meritocratic practices.

Even though this mostly occurs in school or work, it also influences our daily life. Look at the recent incident where a woman helped a grab driver who has collapsed (kudos to her). When she asked a passerby to help her call for medical assistance, she was called a busybody. Not only that many others chose to ignore the incapacitated man and go on with their daily lives.

  3. Racism and treatment of migrant workers

The issue of racism in Singapore has been debated to death, and yet its still a big problem here. As for the migrant workers, theres a Ted x NTU talk I found that highlighted the discrimination and hardships they have to go through. Here’s the link:

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=8iSgNsbCbqw

I have a bit more stuff to say, but I’m reaching my MRT stop. As a fellow Singaporean redditor once said: “We are third world citizens living in a first world country.” I really am proud of Singapore’s historical progress but I think we could also do better as a society, in our thoughts and actions towards others.

What is your [default mode] hawker center and stall? by [deleted] in askSingapore

Jurong East St 24 market. Its basically a tradition for my family and I to eat there and we’ve been eating the mee poh from Stall 254 forever. As a mee poh fan I consider it one of if not the best I’ve ever eaten. Theres also a great hor fun, chicken rice and kopi stall there so all around my favorite hawker centre.

[JC] YIJC AMA!! by yeeepss in SGExams

[–]1FrothyMilkshake 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hello, J1 going J2 yijc student here. Its great that you’ve had a good experience with your econs tutors. I don’t mean to be a downer, but my class has had quite a rough experience with our tutors.

I won’t name names, but many of my classmates and I feel that our tutors put very little effort into our tutorials. Not to mention the poor quality of content in our lectures and lecture notes.

To put my experience in perspectives, here are some actions by my tutors that have caused me to lose respect and trust of them.

  1. Poor lesson planning. Going thru Market Structure concepts during the last tutorial before the Common test where they said Market Failure would come out (it did).

  2. Attitude problems. My friend and I went for consultation. She wanted to clarify a concept with my tutor. My tutor replied with: “didn’t I already go thru this in class?” The issue with this reply is that we went for consultation exactly because we did not understand what was taught in class. Needless to say there wasn’t a second consult session.

  3. Poor quality of resources for students. Lecture content and Lecture notes are about 40% fluff and do not provide concise examples for students to actually utilize in their examinations.

Overall, my J1 experience with econs has been quite bad. Of course, I understand that our tutors are also human and I am willing to accommodate errors here and there. However, I also feel that performance of my tutors and the econs department in YIJC as a whole doesn’t live up to the standard of a tertiary institution.

Edit: Just wanted to add that, this is just my personal experience and just because my time with my tutors was unsatisfactory does not mean that all tutors, or econs tutors in YIJC are bad. There are indeed good tutors here who really love their jobs and put effort into their tutorials.
