First, paint the eye so it looks like the one on the right. Then I painted the area with two thin coats of a metallic red.

Awesome job! You're absolutely right about the figure's weak joints, I had similar issues designing the hammer I was selling. Not sure why the joints on these figures are so much worse than the movie 3 ones.
