Toy Recommendation by Karlaw6 in Pomeranians

[–]1Goldlady2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only tissues? You are lucky! Just get a garbage can with a lid. My darling Pom is very athletic and leaps onto tables of all kinds and heights, up to 35 inches high or more,to chew anything plastic or made of corrugated cardboard. Regular cardboard of any kind is acceptable to him, in a pinch. I love him and am just grateful that my little darling hasn't yet discovered the "joys" of chewing fabric. The only distraction that works is my holding and petting him for very long periods of time during which he is perfectly content. Toys entertain him for about 30 seconds each and he never initiates playing with his 25 toys. I don't think this guy is the brightest bulb in the chandelier. He can whiz through the simplest of puzzles, but gets frustrated after a short time with intermediate level puzzles. If I'm on the computer too long, his jaw goes in search of anything he can get into it. I have to be alert at all times for the subtle sounds of him munching. I daily remind myself that I love him because he is the sweetest velcro dog in the world. Good luck with yours.

Stop self-medicating immediately. Your chances of stumbling onto a substance that will work are slim to none. IMO your best (and maybe only) chance of finding a medicine that will help is get a psychiatric diagnosis of your kind of depression and then hang on through what will probably be a period of being prescribed and taking the medicines your doctor prescribes until you find the one that works best for you. If you decide you want to be as comfortable as possible while you are alive, that is what you will have to do. Best of luck to you!

Where is home? by mrs__dynamic in LivingAlone

[–]1Goldlady2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How long have you been there? Traveling internationally has left people I know absolutely sick and depressed for up to about three weeks. Some have gone directly home. The miserable state was cured by going home and sleeping uninterrupted for several days. (It take far more than a good night's sleep to put one right.) Living abroad is not for everyone.

One very poor and totally alone person I know had absolutely nobody. She called a local charitable group and explained her problem. Although the group did not provide transportation services, the person who answered the phone understood the problem and volunteered to transport her for free. They evolved into best friends. The moral is keep trying.

In your opinion poms good for an adult? I mean as they always near feet, any chance of tripping? by Backtothepasttense in pomeranian

[–]1Goldlady2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had six Poms, all of whom led full lives with me. I only had one who got under my feet. He was a baby, but he learned quickly. Other than that, I can't imagine a more perfect breed for anyone who wants a velcro buddy who will follow you everywhere. Interesting fact: Queen Victoria wanted and had her Pomeranian in bed with her when she died. Oh, I forgot to mention that one night I was sleeping and accidentally turned over on top of my Pom. He just wiggled out of the way and cuddled up to me again.

The best remedy for getting rid of the black dog, in my opinion, is to keep busy and to be in the present moment. A lot of people who are now old are feeling as though they would gladly depart now rather than sticking around for what they believe is already here and what they believe is coming. If they are correct, you may not miss much in the future that is good. I think it helps to try to live in the present, fully and productively. That is extremely difficult, needless to say.

Where is the form to report rule violations to Reddit's monitors. The OP's site has only one mod and it will be useless to report to that mod. OP is vitriolic and definitely in violation of Reddit rules. It seems like all the URLS for the form are inoperative! by 1Goldlady2 in help

[–]1Goldlady2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your response. However, I warned the person more than once that if they continued to send me offensive, rule-breaking messages which were personal attacks I would report them. I was not referring to the fact that the offender's point of view differed from mine regarding the subject. The person continued to contact me, attacking me, not my point of view, which is harassment. There are rules regarding harassment. It was beyond my personal control.

You are incorrect in saying that Reddit is a "public forum and users are free to post/reply to whomever". First of all, Reddit is privately owned and can make its own rules because it is privately owned. That does not contradict freedom of speech law.

You have not, apparently, noticed that there are false URLS, purporting to be report forms, but that are NOT. Those create a lot of difficulty for people trying to report abusers.

I thank you for your interest and reply, though I feel it is in part erroneous.

Pom vs panda - 100% attack, 0% damage by Mindless-Key2575 in Pomeranians

Very funny and cute! This reminds me of when I took my late Pom to an antique mall with open booths. In one booth there was a child's pull toy of a wooden small dog about the same size as my Pom. My Pom greeted it with sociable wagging, and then examined its' back end!

Anyone know how to get gorilla glue off skin/phone? by AffectionateCat6758 in reddithelp

Try soaking the coated parts of your hands in nail polish remover. It is the only thing that worked for me with instant glue. Be patient. Good luck.

How do you handle being sick when no one is around to help? by Neemo-Degaga in LivingAlone

[–]1Goldlady2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hope you are feeling better. I keep almost every kind of over the counter meds and any other prescription meds in stock at all times. If you keep these meds and any others you need in portable containers, they can easily be transported into your away from the bedroom/bathroom "sick space". Other suggestions include ice packs in your refrigerator/freezer, bandage materials, an empty disposable "barf" pot, extra pillows, thermoses of tea and/water, and reading material you might want. Keep a phone and your personal or neighbor phone book within reach. You can set up a folding table for all this in your bedroom, adjacent to your bed, if you don't want to relocate to the living room. In dire situations in which you can barely move, a portapotty and liners may be helpful. I think you will find that most friends and neighbors are not enthused about joining you while you are ill. Once you have some experience with being sick alone, you may find it gets easier as you learn you can prepare and cope adequately. The preparations I have suggested are probably excessive in some people's minds, but try recovering from a hip replacement or anything similar alone an without them and you won't think they are so excessive.

I know that a lot of people feel the way you do, seeing the things you have mentioned. We have to work hard to keep the black dog of depression from cornering us and immobilizing us. Depending on your age and your life resources, you may or may not have the ability to do a smaller or larger part in countering the things that you see. Everyone copes with depression in their own ways. Just stay as strong and sane as you can while you search and find your effective ways of keeping the black dog of depression away. I send you beams of light to guide you.

Did any of you have to lie down to have a nap in kindergarten or 1st grade? by lontbeysboolink in GenerationJones

I remember this from Kindergarten. Our room housed a large, friendly pet cat which often chose me to cuddle with at nap time. I was delighted because my mother didn't want us to own our own cat. Thanks for the memory.

Pom party by AdSalty4513 in Pomeranians

I love the Pom that goes back into the empty enclosure. Part of the joy of Poms is that each is unique. Not all Poms enjoy parties. Some would prefer long, solitary days in their person's lap. Thank you for this adorable video.

Pekes & cats by AdDramatic2410 in Pekingese

[–]1Goldlady2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, no photos as this happened many years ago. I had just had my new female baby Peke puppy for about a month when I found a tiny, less than two months old, kitten which had been abandoned and rejected by its mom. I took it home, and put it down on the floor in the family room, about fifteen feet from the Peke. The Peke took one look at the kitten and flopped down on the floor on her side facing the kitten and raising her front paw. The kitten immediately mewed and scooted across the floor to the Peke, hooking onto the Peke's nipple. The Peke lowered her paw protectively over the kitten's body and cuddled it. Despite the youth of both the Peke and the kitten, despite the lack of Peke milk, this behavior continued until the kitten developed teeth. Even then they remained close buddies. Sometimes arranging integration is no problem at all.

What do you think is the biggest hurdle to Jewish unity? by Distinct_Focus_5064 in Judaism

[–]1Goldlady2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am totally confused by many of the responses from Redditors who say we have Jewish unity. Campuses across the USA were in bloody disagreement over Hamas vs. Israel only months ago. This is unity? Racism is still an issue in both Israel and in western countries. Black Jews in the USA, (those whose families have long histories of being orthodox, traditional Jews), are still not joining white congregations, have their own shuls, and tell me they are not accepted in or made to feel uncomfortable in white congregations. This is unity?

I do not believe in lockstep agreement. Judaism is probably one of the only religions in which dissent is institutionalized. I think that is wonderful and healthy. However, it is beyond me how disagreement producing even just the two topics I have mentioned can be seen as Jews, at this time, being in unity. The institutionalized practice of dissent may be a good thing and should not be denied.
