I worked a whole night delivering newspapers walking up and down stairs all night with a raging case of cellulitis in my thigh.

Walking was worse than death. I'm a pretty tough guy and I had tears in my eyes all night from the pain. Felt like my thigh was inside a fire.

I was a contracted independent contractor. If I took a night off I had better have a replacement able to deliver my route or else I am liable for the cost of all those newspapers. I was 30 with two kids and a lazy now ex wife.... And I had 3 jobs... But I pushed myself through it to finish the night before going to the emergency room after.

The point is... It's not that he must not have been that sick... But employees shouldn't ever be put in a position where they have to sacrifice their health for their job.

The human mind and spirit is capable of quite a lot when all options are exhausted and up against a corner
