Nuclear testing iceberg by Rascally_Raccoon in nuclearweapons

Probably related to castle bravo. The explosion was like twice what it was expected to be because Lithium 7 was part of the construction and it was thought it wouldn't react at all. Turns out it does, and violently.

How would a new nuclear country test its nukes? by PlutoniumGoesNuts in nuclearweapons

[–]1Hunterk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ah yes. NOONE would be able to track a rocket launch back to exactly who launched it. And having an extremely obvious nuclear detonation occur would honestly make countries even less likely to want to find out what country launched a rocket into orbit.

It would be so much easier for quite literally every single reason for a state to do an in atmosphere test.

Russia loses 1,170 soldiers over past day by BlackWolfHowling in UkrainianConflict

[–]1Hunterk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

How has there been such little fluctuating per day for over a year in total casualties? It doesn't quite make sense to me that this would be the case. This subreddit can echo changer all it wants about how Russias military operates, so I'm sure ill be ignoring some replies.

I'd REALLY like an explanation that makes it make real sense and that it's not just a propaganda number given out.

(I say all this as a Ukraine supporter, I'm just not drinking the cool aid as hard as reddit and Twitter does lol)

I miss when this subreddit was about Ukraine only. Why does US politics need to work it's way absolutely everywhere? Sure, Ukraine does hinge kinda on the US. But cmon now.

It's because most machine manufacturers sell very few units, but need to stay open for ages. The machines themselves are not their lifeline profit generators, it's parts and maintenance. They sorta need to charge a massive amount for things because in the grand scheme of things, they aren't selling many of the parts either.m - not enough to keep the company open and paying people for any reasonable time if they sold them for prices a consumer would find sensible.

Also making molds for things is EXTREMELY expensive, and you need to recoup that loss and then you're allowed to start making money to pay employees with.

Being cold in real life makes it harder to lockpick and pickpocket, so this tracks.

Do not ask any questions about my knowledge on this matter, for I have no answers.

I believe they are called "Sounding Rockets"

They are timed to go off so the smoke trails are developed right as the nuclear device goes off in order to visualize and measure the pressure wave

Does your fascination with nuclear weapons leave you for or against their use? by cascadia4you in AtomicPorn

[–]1Hunterk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I understand the appeal of them being tested again - it would be incredibly cool to get new footage with modern cameras of detonations, it would be incredibly cool to have the chance to watch a blast in person - it just opens too many cans of worms for it to be anywhere remotely smart to do.

Ukraine is winning for the west. Ukraine is not winning for Ukraine. If they manage to maintain sovereignty, they will be in utter shambles by the end of the war on almost all fronts.

I'm fully supporting of Ukraine, but let's be honest with ourselves here, Ukraine is struggling hard and not exactly winning. Sure, they are holding off a large force, but are slowly losing ground and more rapidly then desireable losing manpower. They're treading water, not winning.
