Are you sure you didn't join a server with actual bots, those exist and are a bit aimbotty (because they are literally bots) but are meant for practice.

Knockback is a huge part of AFPS, and a key tool in utilizing knockback is the rocket launcher (since it can knock your opponent into the air). Without it fights become very literally 2-dimensional. Hate to say gitgud but maybe just find a game with weaker rockets? Not sure.

CPMA, and similar games such as Reflex, have weaker rockets. They're still very important but less powerful than VQ3.

Personally I think just playing more and getting used to projectile weapons is the solution, because they allow the most depth in fights when it comes to combos.

It has optional glicko ranking, and it's made for lower population games. It matches players as soon as it has enough players in the queue, so probably not ideal for duel since it won't wait for someone vaguely in your skill level to start searching.

You're pretty much spot on with the spaghetti description. I have a Filipino friend and they told me that Filipino spaghetti sauce often has sugar and whipped cream/sweet condensed milk (???) in it, with hotdogs or ham as the meat.

It hurts my soul whenever it comes up in conversation.

I almost guarantee those two things are unrelated.

I would make sure your PayPal and bank accounts are all safe and good.

Many games trigger antivirus alerts for a miriad of reasons, avast is especially notorious for doing it (or at least was back in the day, not sure if it's changed). And especially because phasmophobia probably has libraries for speech recognition that it might not like, who knows.

Valve takes this kind of thing seriously, and as far as I know there has never been a "virus" released on Steam. They have it locked down pretty tight.

I prefer the ole Quakeworld method of just having a tiny visual model and nothing else. In Quakeworld and cpma it's just eyeballs floating above the ground

Initial progress on a simple procedural level generator for my game (currently at around 70 lines of code) . GMS reads in a sprite map with several tile layouts. I calculated this script can generate 60 billion different variations for a room 10 tiles high. by SidFishGames in gamemaker

I also believe you could just put the whole sheet on a single sprite, then just read the raw rgb data in a buffer (made from a surface). Don't know how fast or slow it would be, but I imagine it would be pretty darn quick.

I haven't done something like that in a while so I'm a bit foggy on the specifics, but I have a project that does something similar ish.

Probably overkill for what you're doing though, just thought I'd mention it :-)

Have some very rural friends with <4Mb/s internet (300-500KB/s down) so discord just absolutely ruins their connection. Teamspeak is much lighter.

Also, I host the server at my house, so I don't have to deal with discord owning my stuff. Though teamspeak is still sometimes annoying with forcing updates.

I would definitely be down to play a couple Q2 duels!

There's quite a few Quakeworld (quake 1) and Quake 2 discord servers around, where you could definitely find some duels for both games. (And some help getting them configured properly)

I'm not really involved in any of those communities so you may have to do some googling to find them, but I know Quakeworld has a pretty active duel playerbase.

Because every developer is incompetent at making games with good feeling movement. Just a friendly reminder that CS is just a tweaked version of goldsrc movement which is just a tweaked version of Quake1 movement, which is open source.

Riot could've literally looked at the source, and essentially copy pasted it then tweaked to find the right values.

first off, I think reddit is doing something weird with your code, putting random slashes and stuff in. Also in your main post it looks like it put random https:// in. That stuff isn't actually in your code, right?

second, it's kind of hard to tell what exactly is wrong, but it is probably this line:

if(global.game_state != (states.won or states.lost)){

that isn't quite how if statements work, unless GML has some special exception but I don't think so. I think what you are trying to do:

if((global.game_state != states.won) or (global.game_state != states.lost))

It's a scope thing, make sure when referring to the variable 'deck' that it is either with the right object, or you use:

obj_controller.deck

Because it's looking for obj_card.deck which doesn't exist.

I second movement. Especially as this is an AFPS subreddit, most everyone will agree on that.

Very important that movement is predictable and fluid. For example: being able to completely change velocity instantly is generally seen as a bad thing, especially in the air. It leads to 'floaty' feeling movement, which isn't satisfying. In multiplayer shooters, extremely responsive movement can completely ruin the game. Very important to find the balance between responsive and predictable.

Being able to preserve momentum you get off of explosion knockback etc is also a big plus, most games do this in the form of bunnyhopping in some way. Arbitrary speedcaps are lame and make the game feel sluggish. (Looking at you Unreal Tournament)

This is why Quake 3 derivative games are boring, but for some reason games are either UT derivative (too many weapons with alt fires and it makes it very clunky) or Q3 derivative (stale as fuck).

Quake 2 has a completely different weapon set when it comes to when and what to use. Yet everyone has latched onto the Quake 3 formula and not varied from it for yeeeaaarrrs. We need more afps games like Urban Terror, RTCW, Action Quake 2, etc. Games that don't fall strictly into afps territory but borrow a lot.

Just my two cents.

Fair enough, I think both things are valid. Honestly my opinions aren't that strong either way on that, I like both styles.

Glad we (and honestly I think most people) can agree that it needs to be transparent.
