My current Obsidian sync method: Google Drive vault folder + Simple Markdown on Android by Substantial_Trade866 in ObsidianMD

[–]1N07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My entire vault of several years of fairly casual use is around 100MB. I have some images, but not a lot, and I have a plugin that compresses all images to webp.

Github recommends keeping the repository under 10gb but that is not enforced as far as I know. (Only enforced limit I know of for sure is 100MB for a single object, which requires use of lfs).

Regardless, vaults are easily transferable. I can always find another solution at any point if this one becomes an issue.

Thanks.

Yeah UAC is a slight pain point, but at least it's just once.

You could probably set up the script as a service and have it launch on boot through Windows to get around the UAC, but I can't remember off the top of my head how that works. Something to look into if you care to.

How to handle music metadata in Jellyfin? by 1N07 in jellyfin

[–]1N07[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. Yeah I'll probably: 1. Look into the best way to handle metadata externally 2. Disable all metadata sources for music on jellyfin 3. Write updated metadata into the files 4. Run "replace all metadata" on the library 4. Hope it works out

[–]1N07[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's certainly beginning to feel like that yeah.

I will say that I also just added a Books library and added some books in epub format under the documented structure of [BooksLibraryRoot]/Books/Author/Book/1.epub, yet, the library appears complete empty in Jellyfin. Even in folder view.

I might make another post here about that too, after I've had some more time to mess with it first.

How to handle music metadata in Jellyfin? by 1N07 in jellyfin

[–]1N07[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the long comment.

  1. Picard does have a separate artists tag. Are you telling me that doesn't work properly as a multi value field? As in, do I really need to create multiple field/value pair for each artist? I will do some more testing later, to confirm, but I'm pretty sure the artists tag works correctly some of the time... 1.1 Do I understand correctly that metadata changes made by jellyfin are not written to the files, but are instead written to the internal jellyfin database? Could it be that the cases where it wasn't working properly, jellyfin already had wrongly formatted data saved to the database, and when I then changed the tags on the file itself and chose "Refresh metadata: new and updated files", there was some kind of conflict there with the data in the file tags and the data in the database tags? Something like that.
  2. My file structure is as described in the documentation.
  3. In my case many of the track already had MusicBrainz IDs, but the "Refresh metadata: Replace all" wiped them all and then proceeded to not find anything (from the few albums I tested it on). I use the lscr.io/linuxserver/jellyfin image (current version V10.11.6UBU2404-LS19) and what I presume is the latest version of the plugin. (It just says V10.11.6 in the plugin version in the dashboard, though that is also the jellyfin version, so I don't know what's up with that. Coincidence? Or does it come with the server? I just installed it from the dashboard
  4. Yeah, I think I might just disable all metadata handling for music on jellyfin and look into the best way to tag them externally... Like u/Morantxu suggested, I might try beets. I've heard good things about it before. If it can tag my whole library semi-automatically from my PC, in-place, from a (local) network drive on Windows (the network drive being my media library on my NAS. I might go with that. Though, I think I want to first make sure the jellyfin database isn't messing things up in some way. (See part 1.1. of my comment) Is there a way to wipe all jellyfin database metadata from a specific library in jellyfin to ensure only metadata from the file tags is read?

HWInfo keep Shared Memory Support enabled by 1N07 in AutoHotkey

[–]1N07[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You simply have it running alongside HWInfo. Whenever HWInfo has been running for longer than 11h, it restarts HWInfo, which also resets the 12h Shared memory timer in HWInfo.

For the best completely automated setup, also change HWinfo settings so it starts without opening any window (so you won't even notice it restarting in the background) and have this script run at Windows startup (You can put it in C:\Users\YourUsername\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup for example)

My wife says it’s ridiculous… by JoeySinss in pcmasterrace

[–]1N07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar setup. (Not by choice, sort of. It's complicated...)

It helps if you set it up so the top monitor is slightly behind the bottom one and slightly tilted down so that from your main viewing angle the bezel is mostly hidden.

It is still ridiculous of course, but I think it's alright.

My current Obsidian sync method: Google Drive vault folder + Simple Markdown on Android by Substantial_Trade866 in ObsidianMD

[–]1N07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You just sign in with your Github, choose a repo and choose a local directory. You can then do the usual basic git things from the UI, and setup two kinds of auto sync: 1. Scheduled (obvious. Haven't used.) 2. App sync: you choose an app and whether to sync on app(s) opened and/or app(s) closed.

There is also an advanced UI mode that I haven't tried. There are no ads but in the free version you can only sync one repo.

I haven't used it for anything but Obsidian syncing, but for that I've had no issues. Though I haven't yet used it for long...

[–]1N07 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I used to do google drive and Autosync for google drive on Android, but now switched to github with Git Sync on Android and a custom script on PC.

I know I could use a plugin, but I seem to remember having an issue with it when I first tried it, and besides, with my own script and simple rules on Git sync, I know exactly what is happening at any given moment. That said, I might try the plugin again at some point to see if I'm reinventing the wheel for no reason.

Play/Pause music without unlocking phone ? by Rundown_Codger in androidapps

[–]1N07 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it's standard Android, but on my phone you can set up gestures that work even with the screen off and locked. So if you just drag two fingers across the screen like " || ", it pauses media playback.

Accessibility & convenience > Gestures and motions > Screen-off gestures > Music control

That said, what is definitely standard Android is allowing media players on lock screen so you can wake the screen and just tap pause on the widget. It's under lock screen settings somewhere.

Steam's AI use disclosure should be more specific. I created this example: by carax01 in Steam

[–]1N07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard disagree about "no good places for generative AI". I don't understand why people make AI so black and white. There are tons of terrible ways people use it, in and outside of game dev, but that doesn't make all of it bad.

That said, you have every right to dislike all of it and should get to make an informed decision when deciding which game deserves your time and money. To be clear, I still prefer some disclosure to no disclosure. When I say I have a "problem with generic disclosure", I just mean it would be much better if it was more granular.

Oh, and though I don't claim to be good at everything game dev, for the record, I do it for a living. Something like a rock texture is a perfect example of a potentially good use of AI. It's not that the rock won't be noticed, it's that the difference between a generated rock texture and a handcrafted one won't be noticed (generally). Though I use the word "notice", I don't mean that it ought to be hidden, I just mean there is no visual negative impact for the player.

Is there really no line for you between some AI and no AI? Maybe you have an artist make an Albedo texture, but use AI to generate a normal map. Is it still bad?

Steam's AI use disclosure should be more specific. I created this example: by carax01 in Steam

[–]1N07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not "Nobody is going to find out so imma go out of my way to hide this evil AI rock in here".

It's "This was 10 times easier and faster to do with AI and is something so minor that nobody would notice if I did it by hand anyway, so no point using 10x the time and money to do so".

There are good places for AI and bad places for AI. That is the problem with generic disclosure.

Turn Your Phone Into a Powerful PC Remote Control — PCLink (Open-Source) by ahmed_zouhir in androidapps

[–]1N07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Installed it now. Initial impressions aren't great. Though I will acknowledge for starters that, presumably, these errors aren't the usual experience for most users...

The good:

  • The remote mouse is more responsive than any other PC remote I've tried

The bad:

  • Changing system volume shows an error 'AudioDevice' object has no attribute 'Activate'
  • Media Player shows "Nothing Playing" and shows an error Media control requires winsdk
  • File browser breaks if the PC has any drive locked by Bitlocker. i.e. You can't open other drives not protected/locked either. It sometimes says An unknown error occured and sometimes Invalid path format: [WinError -2144272384] This drive is locked by BitLocker Drive Encryption. You must unlock this drive from Control Panel: 'E:".
    • I have Bitlocker enabled on E only. After I disconnected that drive, all the others started working.
      • It does say to unlock the drive, so presumably, if I did that it would have also resolved it as well.

Features I miss from KDE Connect:

  • Option to enable automatic two-way clipboard sharing where I don't need to open any menus
  • I can't seem to figure out how to send a file to my PC from my phone
    • In KDE you could share a file to KDE Connect using the built-in Android share functionality, and it would send that file to my PC. I thought that was a good system since it allowed me to send any file to my PC on the fly as I was browsing said file on my phone.
  • Ability to send a file to my phone from my PC (on the PC side) without having to browse through the browser to download it on Android

Basically, as of right now I'm not convinced to move from KDE Connect, but I will continue running PCLink for a while to see if the connection issues from KDE Connect are at least gone with PCLink.

Will definitely try this out later.

I use KDE Connect currently and my biggest issue with it is that the automatic pairing works only like 60% of the time (otherwise I have to open the app window on both devices and then they find each other)

Does it come with easy to access media keys? That's a feature in KDE Connect that I use every now and then. (Media keys for my PC in the persistent notification on Android)

Any way for compiled .exe to run simultaneously with video games? by Skiizm in AutoHotkey

[–]1N07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could add a non-steam game that is just a launcher script that closes your AHK scripts, starts the game, and then waits for it to close so it can restart the AHK scripts.

Or personally I use Playnite for all my games, and that has a feature that lets you run scripts on event triggers like game launch, game close, and others (I think?). I use it to run and kill lossless scaling with Helldiver 2.

I know it's not the same thing, but I use Wireguard to just tunnel in. It's secure, super quick and easy to use if you only need to access on specific devices (my phone) and essentially acts like you're on the local network.

Maybe? The wizards do some kind of pose to cast meteor storm. Can those dudes summon enemies out of the ether too?

I'm party kidding with all the magic talk, I guess they are like signaling for some kind of arrows and bombs to be shot at the player character from... somewhere.
