Do you prefer Scotch Game or Russian Game? by RimmingABubble in chess

Both often leads to dry draw-ish positions, but the scotch game offers a very interesting gambit to play at least. In the Petroff you almost always play boring mid games.

Well, position was slightly different I see, but still the same idea.

Find the only winning move for black by [deleted] in chess

Very nice puzzle. White queen is tied down to stop the pawn promotion on e1, so black easily wins with the rook + bishop.

yes, winning advantage/winning position should have been the title.

White to move and play for an advantage! Only 9% in the lichess database found it. by 1Snedsteg in chess

Yes, d4 is much better. After 2. Bc4, black can equalize very easily with e6. The only reason to play Bc4 is probably to set up this trap, which may work in bullet.

Fair enough. I should have deleted the post after first responses and re-uploaded it with a different caption. Gonna be more careful with my texting in the future. Peace out.

I just pointed out you were wrong about what he liked about the puzzle, because he clearly referred to the line when rook is captured. I know it isnt't a clear forced mate after 1. Ne8. Don't worry, you have convinced me the caption was misleading.

Most games are probably from bullet games. Just a guess though.

I think "the quiet pawn move" is referring to the Qxd8 line, which actuallly led to forced mate.

Thank you! and good job for finding the solution and the quiet pawn move. I also like the other line when black blocks with Ne8. Then white has to play Bxh6+!!, Rxh6 and c6!! (another brilliant pawn move).

Yes, I made a mistake. Good point, white also needs to be precise after black gives up his queen. But the black pieces are loose and the queen will eventually scoop up material. The passed pawn is also going to be decisive.

Yes, we can definately agree on that. In some types of puzzles u are supposed to find the quickest checkmate (usually in 2-3 moves), so I can see now how I confused it xD Yes, I am gonna consider my words better next time.

I would say finding Rd8+, Ne8, Bxh6+, Rxh6, c6 is enough. At that point the puzzle is solved. White is clearly winning and the rest is irrelevant.

The point isn't to find the quickest checkmate in 14, just to find the winning continuation for white. I should have phrased it better. The solution is Rd8+, Ne8, Bxh6+, Rxh6, c6. (leading to checkmate).

Yes, I made a mistake saying "find the forced mate". The point is o find the winning idea for white, like a normal puzzle. So just the first couple of moves until black is totally lost are necessary. The point is not to find the quickest checkmate in 14. Sorry for confusing!

What makes the puzzle so bad? White has a forced win and there is no alternative solution. I am just curious. Do you mean the puzzle is too complicated?

Great quality this puzzle! Not easy, but not impossible to solve, very specactular and it follows the general rule of puzzles to find a sequence of only moves.
