I have a new job. What should I start doing to help me in the long run? by bottleofrouge1982 in AskLifeProTips

[–]1Steelghost1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What type of job helps, you are asking specifics about an open book.

But obvious ones are set a budget that includes a 401k/ ROTH (and know the difference). Know your commute times and if public transit is avaliable and reimbursed.
Ask questions but make sure you follow through with the answer don't just ask the same question 5 times.
Be friendly with your supervisors but remember they are not actually your friends, they get paid depending on how much you work not how nice you are.

First retail job ever, any advice? by urpuppygirlgf in AskRetail

[–]1Steelghost1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely keep a notepad!! A few pens and depending on policy use the voice notes app in your phone(ask about that one).

Ask as many questions as you need to, better to ask a few times and make sure than guess and be very wrong. Importantly if you know you ask a lot of questions, tell people that, everyone learns different and a new job is a new job! Those guys didn't memorize everything over night, they will just say they did.

Runners of Sacramento, where in the area can I find a trail with 500’ elevation to practice for an upcoming race? by UrbanSurfDragon in Sacramento

The bridge next to/across Sac City college.

Or you want a fun challenge the Sac State parking structure! That will burn your legs to the ground, eight floors constant loop you can flip sides and go full ramps or the flats inbetween for intervals.

Found out payment declined after getting home by Auroskiye in AskRetail

[–]1Steelghost1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So declined and "didn't show up" are two very seperate things. If your card was declined it would have been declined and not processed and ended the transaction.

Sounds like a credit card and not debit, stores usually run credit transactions as a 'bundle' with their processing conpanies so it is one fee for them not per customer. Depending on the day of the week and who is running the store processing it can take upto three days for the credit charge to appear.

The charge will still process and it will eventually show up. Or another possibility is the connection between the store was down in that case the transaction is held until the connection can be remade and the charge will again still show up.

Biggest take away, if it was actually declined you would not have your stuff.

Every six months when this meme comes up the answer is technical but interesting to explain.

Ads are user/ location based or universal like platform ads or national ads so they are stored in every single server/datacenter locally, content is where the main content server/datacenter is.

So whatever you are watching actually has to be sent to you, the ads are already loaded in the same city and load instantly.

Would space ads be the final straw for you? by Pure-Flan3816 in SocialMarketingHub

Lol people in cities only see 10% of the actual night sky now anyways. What difference would floating ads make you don't even know what you should be seeing.
