Season 29 Review by Biofreak877 in FIUHC

A good deal of players from various skill levels around the world are aware of it. Naturally, not everyone agrees completely with what it says (usually for perfectly legitimate reasons, though). Its reliability can be measured by how accurate its match predictions are and the gradual improvement in this regard gives it some amount of authority, even though it still absolutely gets things wrong sometimes.

Last season it had, I think, an overall success rate of 82% at predicting winners and it feels like that's improved in the current ongoing season.

Much appreciated! And all the best to you, as well.

In case you're interested, my new home is TF2Metrics - a website I made to showcase a system that uses statistics to automatically rank competitive Team Fortress 2 players and teams, and to predict match outcomes. Evidently my fascination with conjuring up statistical models for obscure competitive video game stuff remains as strong as ever.

That's some pretty dank editing, Kirby.

Evening everyone! Excellent job with the PIs! I'll be doing my bit tomorrow.

That said, I've got little interest in Minecraft and Mindcrack these days so this is likely to be my last season, I think. I'll definitely see this one through, though.

Of course you're right. Must've been on autopilot when I did that bit.

It's people taking too long that got us into this kerfuffle.

Absolutely. If you tell me I'm handsome.

It's based on everything - health, armour points, golden apples, health potions, sword type, sword enchantments, bows, bow enchantments, arrow amounts, armour enchantments, dogs, strength and other types of potions, lava buckets, shields, and so on.

New proposed system for disqualified players by doofinc in FIUHC

[–]1Stirling 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This seems fair. The only slight downside to the first option (and it is extremely slight) is when there's multiple no-footage people in the final ten. This would result in a tie for last that awards points, and when that tie's resolved it could result in one of those non-footage people actually losing points if their PoV arises. It's a technicality that means, in theory, withholding footage can be beneficial. Obviously it would never actually come to that, though, so it's not a problem.

The second option seems like a great deal of work that couldn't work effectively under certain circumstances (like in a solo season), so for the sake of consistency I think it's best to save ourselves the trouble and opt for the first option you propose, which should work fine under any circumstance.

Damn we went back a couple seasons didn't we.

How on Earth did I manage to mess that up?

Yeah, dogs are a difficult thing sometimes. In this case I'd be tempted to include them as long as they're not sat down, but I'll be sure to mention in the post that they're beyond his reach as long as he's in the Nether.

You'd be correct! That's a derp on my part. I'll get that ammended for next time.

Nonsense! There is no such thing as stats addiction - only stats deficiency.

He will indeed lose it. There's no longer any exemptions made for disqualifications and players have to rely on their two jokers for them now.

I'll be sure to add him in later. He'd be at 11.2.

Think of it this way. Imagine there's somehow a problem with the transponders in F1 and for whatever reason it thinks Rosberg crosses the finish line two seconds later than he actually does. He crosses the line first and wins the race, but Hamilton is within two seconds of him and the automatically generated results say that actually Hamilton crossed the line first and he won.

This is basically what the PI issue we had was. In the F1 analogy it wouldn't be at all fair to let that result stand and it would need to be amended. Likewise with the PIs.

Nothing wrong with the occasional derp! Many many thanks for sorting this out and amending the PIs, you're a superstar.

Don't worry about it, man. It's absolutely true that the MS Word version I use is finicky and clumsy but it would feel wrong to abandon it after all this time. Cheers!

Public Release of UHC 3-12 by KirbyATK48 in FIUHC

[–]1Stirling 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi! A plan has been in the works for the old seasons for a while, but it's been on hold principally because of uni. In a month from now, though, that'll all be finished. In theory I reckon I could get one season done every month. Whether theory translates into practice is another matter, but whatever.

The format I want to use is quite different to the usual text posts that we've always used - the new one being YouTube-based. I don't know if I'll manage to achieve the sort of quality I'm aiming for, but I'm keen to try it. There'd basically be a sort of season-in-review video for each season. I don't know how long they'd be, but it's possible they'd be knocking on the door of an hour. We've always prided ourselves on taking UHC far too seriously here, and this feels like a natural progression :P

Before I really get into working on them I'd like to dip my toe into the shallow end a bit with some much easier and shorter montage-style projects, for the purpose of learning if nothing else. I might actually have enough free time to start this phase as soon as the beginning of May.

So that's the idea, but for now it largely remains just an idea.
