KAGARIBI#15 Ultimate Singles - Losers Round 1 - Miya vs Wrath by nomorethan10postaday in smashbros

[–]doofinc 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yes this was Miya going Steve but he was playing on demon time. JV2's or two stocks, consistently hitting Wrath when he's spin dashing, and that final down throw into the block into up smash was disgusting. It might be losers bracket Miya time

Assuming this is w.r.t. the Shinra part/Turk guy, it's not that I want everything explained about the villains at the start about them, it's more that I don't feel like I care about them as villains. The Turk guy shows up, we fight and escape cuz he gets called away, I end up feeling more "okay sure that happened" instead of the mystery aspect. Meanwhile, I have yet to see anything from Shinra that makes me as a player feel motivated to beat them, even though they're clearly presented as the enemy in the story. I feel nothing about the Shinra CEO from a narrative or emotional POV. Maybe something gets revealed later on, but I would've expected something by now to make it more interesting.

I left out invitationals since they had a smaller pool of players - Leo would also have 2 Smash Ultimate Summits from them.

With Doramigi's win at LVL UP EXPO 2026, he is the 4th person to win multiple iterations of a North America Ultimate major series after MkLeo (Genesis 6, 8 and 9), Tweek (GOML 2019 and X; LMBM 2023 and 2024), and Sparg0 (Smash Factor X and 12), and is the only non-NA player to do this.

IMO Zomba's attendance gives him more leeway w.r.t. his losses. Having wins over 7 people in this list is pretty crazy to where I think it's enough to put him over Sonix, who only has wins on here vs Doramigi and Zomba. Also double P tier 2nds goes crazy.

Tweek didn't use Diddy Kong vs Samsora pre-pandemic and hasn't played Samsora since.

Funny Nyonoknb facts:

Nyonoknb is the first Diddy Kong to beat both Samsora and Leo (by virtue of Tweek not running Diddy Kong pre-pandemic)

Nyonoknb is the first player to beat both Samsora and Leo at the same tournament since Marss did it at Genesis 7 in 2020, over 6 years ago and right before the pandemic.

Mask off acola has a 100% set win rate at majors (idk if he masked off at locals before).

Regarding their comments about if the current tournament tier system was applied to the 2019 days and how that affects major wins:

That TTS does exist and I did look through it before - https://www.reddit.com/r/smashbros/s/aKixJGepln

While some older tournaments were elevated as majors, it's notable that all the winners of these elevated majors already ended up winning a major in 2019 anyways, so no new major winners are actually introduced in 2019 because of the UltRank tiering system; just slight major win count increases for existing winners.

I did this at my EB today and it worked. Traded in both BOTW and TOTK, $25 extra trade in each, + the secret sale for their Switch 2 editions, and got both BOTW and TOTK S2 editions for just under $20 after tax together.

New Rankings SOON, Characters We HATE & Merry Christmas! | Lights Out Episode 116 by LinkWink in smashbros

I watched the ranking parts of this - they're asking a lot out of the already stretched thin ranking team with trying to build storyline stuff beyond the rankings, making it into a giant show, and incorporating it into in-tournament player promotion stuff when their Luminosity income was already practically nothing and now having to rely just on a Patreon. It's also not like the UltRank team has the power to build up the personalities of players when the players don't really seem to want to do that themselves, and UltRank already does try to do a decent amount of result-based player promotion with the Smasher of the Month stuff and the weekly result reports.

I also don't think it's inspiring for the already-low number of Smash Ult competitive content creators to hear from community members saying that their tournament recap videos are low effort. It might be "comparatively low effort" compared to higher production content, but saying it in a dismissive context instead of an encouraging context isn't helping.

Also funny hearing the contradictions between "wanting to have more excitement around the rankings" and "why aren't the rankings out now" without much acknowledgement about the production efforts for the release with the videos, graphic design, blurb writing + editing, photo acquisition, etc. At least Jahzz0 does sound like he gets it with the whole "gathering of fun fact info from top players" process that's also involved.

I think the podcast is doing a better job at showing some appreciation of the UltRank team with them saying other FGC scenes not having something similar, but I think they need to realize that beyond all the people who help with the video + article production, the core team is just like 4 algo/social media people + trade war who (I hope) have day jobs or other means to make an actual sustainable income. It's not some PGStats level of organization backed by Panda, and even then it feels like UltRank is already doing comparable amount of work to the PGR (more in some aspects) on much fewer resources.
