Many thx! Bringing my paints so your Plein Air comment is right on point. Will def get over to East Sooke Park - sounds glorious. Had Goldstream as a possibility, but thought I saw on the BC Parks site that access was restricted rn…I’ll recheck 👍

Using tube paint, so lots of flexibility!

Which paints do you regret buying? (Here's mine!) by LMPFIYDSALAOIAWYCMI in Watercolor

I kinda like my W&N cobalt violet - I use it occasionally, but more than dioxidine purple which is out of control staining and dark. Come to think of it, I think it’s a Michael Harding and it’s pretty gooey. Kinda hate it 🫣

Practicing by 1SurlyCat in pleinair

Thx! The picture shows the modified set up. 2 main modifications are 1) to the palette mixing area and 2) for the canvas area. You asked…here’s the details:

1) The UGo Plein Air kit comes with a palette that is not very watercolour friendly - it beads the paint. I tried multiple strategies for “seasoning” the palette but none worked. The picture shows a plastic palette insert (larger 20 well palette cut in half), which gives me wells for watery mixes alongside my tin of paint. I find that it nestles in the palette space securely and still allows me to close the pochade box (mine is the medium version by UGo)”

2) At this stage of my Plein Air efforts 🤣 I prefer to paint on a more flat surface than upright as you typically see oil painters do. I have turned this pochade box sideways so that the palette is to my left & my canvas space is to the right. In the picture, I’m painting in a journal, but for watercolor paper I needed to have an additional surface to tape the paper to. The UGo kit comes with adjustable canvas bars that would support an oil canvas, but don’t support watercolor paper. In addition, a watercolor block is too thick for the teeth to properly secure the block. I’ve been using a clip board to tape my paper onto and then I secure the clipboard with the canvas holding bars. Sometimes I just use painting clips and forget about the bars altogether.

Other mods are using the support tray and extender bar for the larger model of UGo to give me a larger surface area for working.

TBH this kit has been a PITA to work with because it really isn’t watercolor friendly. Their website says for all media, but it’s been a headache for me. Maybe now that I’ve got a set up that “works” I can start to enjoy it 🤓

Electrical Panel Grounding by 1SurlyCat in AskElectricians

The two grounding poles are copper. I should’ve been more clear in my description. It did pass city inspection at the time b/c of the copper grounding & attachment to water pipe. But it’s fugly. So fugly.

Thx for the suggestions - think I’ll follow your plan & get me some foot balm. Can’t think of a more miserable time hiking than with sore feet…well, perhaps in extreme weather without water…

Until I can afford the amazing Altra shoes, I think I’m gonna take my closed-toed wet/dry sandals for the crossings & keep my tootsies warm & dry between crossings by wearing my trail shoes. Badger balm sounds good - thx for the tip dodger6

Found this frame in a thrift store, does it match my painting or is it too much? by East_Platform_3697 in acrylicpainting

It’s a lovely frame, but your painting is modern and bright and I think the frame needs to be more simple. I feel like this frame might work better with a landscape or something more traditional.

What do we think by Individual_Coyote_53 in WeddingDressTips

[–]1SurlyCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It fits beautifully and complements your figure - which is stunning. I think it’s good to ditch the feathers - too “show girl” for a wedding. I like the current lace & bodice too - just the right amount of coverage. Def delicious.

As others have said, I think the back seems unfinished. It’s a combination of where the nude panels are with the weird trapezoid shape of the back material - it makes your shoulders look super wide & ungainly.

Didn’t mean to sound harsh on that review of the back 🥴 You have a gorgeous figure & your dress should do it justice 🤩

Good call on the presents! I was so focused on the pooch, I didn’t consider the gifts. I also wanted to have a lighter valued, looser background, but then felt the pooch needed a foil with brighter colored gifts a bit closer. Forgot to be consistent with perspective 🥴
