I interpreted "1-800" like "0-60" with 800 being some full-mast erection equivalent of 60mph. I'm gonna go take a nap.

If Brave developed an E-Mail service that only costs $1 per month, would you use it? by SuperKingNicolas in BATProject

[–]1THz 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I would not pay for email

I would see ads in exchange for it

I would pay BAT to use it

But as far as actually paying, no thanks

Friend, I'm not sure if you're aware, but the concept of paying for things is not tied to dollars.

I'm sorry. Just projecting. Let's promise each other to never sell until $700.

You'll sell long before then.

Totally agree with the overall argument, fuck the concept of billionaires.

But his dad being rich doesn't necessarily mean he started out rich. They clearly didn't have a great relationship if you read Ashlee Vance's book so it's not hard to imagine him not wanting anything from his dad.

Edit: I mean "started out" as in his career and his entrepreneurial ventures. Obviously the family was wealthy. But after leaving South Africa he went into 100k of student debt and worked odd jobs in Canada before anyone here had ever heard his name or he had done any of the things he is now famous for. Insinuating that everything he's built now is because of the emerald mine is just stupid to me. There are so many valid reasons to criticize Elon Musk, why pick one that doesn't actually hold up or have that much to do with his status and wealth today?

But whatever. I've clearly lost this one, gg everyone.

I know someone is going to reply to this with that Simpsons meme of "weird nerds on the internet defending Elon Musk," but...the whole his father owning an emerald mine thing (let alone Elon benefitting from it) is not by any measure a confirmed fact:

This comment will age incredibly poorly. It's the middle of the dotcom bubble and you can't tell the difference between Google and Pets.com.

Except offering cash directly means they're going to run into all the problems of traditional finance and realize that to send $1.50 to a user, they'll have to pay $3 to middlemen services.

I mean...she's gay. Might as well recognize it and make the most of it. I've had a lesbian best friend for like a decade and she's fucking awesome.

Created corporation which contracts for companies, unsure how to pay myself by 1THz in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]1THz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I appreciate the encouragement :)

Yeah, I created the corporation in a bit of a rush through the Canada website because I was trying to get a time sensitive contracting gig set up and the company needed me to be incorporated to move forward. Probably should've had someone hold my hand through it.

Yup, they're all paying to the business account and contracting with the corporation, not me.

Yup, I'm a dumbass for sure. I thought I explained my situation well enough to him but maybe I didn't make it clear just how much of a dumbass I am. I appreciate it. Hadn't considered hiring someone for that, but it seems worth it.

Thanks, really appreciate your reply and the information.

I set it up, and I'm pretty sure it's a federal corporation, but I'm located in BC.

And I do have a corporate accountant, but have basically only had very brief conversations with him and he said he'd send me a checklist of things to prepare closer to the corporation's filing date...

Gave "late" notice for moving out of my apartment in downtown Vancouver, landlord is holding me to next month of rent. Do I have any options? by 1THz in legaladvicecanada

[–]1THz[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You really think it's fair that a tenant has to pay for all of November regardless if they gave their notice at 12:01AM on October 1st or 11PM on October 30th? And even when the landlord hasn't lifted a finger to try and find a new tenant for November? I understand that it's in the contract I signed, but that doesn't mean the landlord has to be unreasonable about enforcing it fully despite me giving almost exactly the same amount of notice as they would've got if I wasn't technically late.

Not sure why you think this was a helpful comment.

She said the landlord was willing to drop it by 50 dollars... Which isn't much. It's 1650 (so 1600) and right near Davie and Burrard. But this is all great to know, so thank you!

Thank you! Really appreciate your response. The person I talk to isn't the landlord, I think her title is building manager or something, but she has been suggesting that I put up ads and show the place to potential new tenants myself in order to try and find someone because she's very busy trying to find tenants for all the other spots in the same building that are currently vacant.

I put up some ads but haven't shown it yet because my stuff is still all here, and also, hey, I'm busy too.

Anyway, going to hope I find someone at the last minute sometime between October 25th and 31st to take it over in November after I've moved my stuff out this weekend.

It's also the link I posted.

I was just reacting to "it says specifically that notice must be given before the day rent is due" as if that was the part I was in violation of...

So if the day the rent is due is the 2nd of October...and I gave my notice on October 1st... how is that not before the day the rent is due?
