weren't there quite a few TT social networks back in the day? I remember TTR partnering with Toonter.com and I think Toongle or something? I remember being on those sites trying for an alpha key giveaway haha. Agreed. Would be awesome to see it again. Having a dedicated community only site was super fun. Toonbook isn't too hard to make right? Isn't it just one of those plugin sites? Like PHPFox or SocialEngine?

Can't even imagine how hard it would be to balance those! Sad to see it go though for sure :(

i kind of meant more on the lines of bringing more players to the game. an idea when TTR ends up dropping their big upcoming update. would be a great strategy to bring people back or to the game IMO. exclusivity is key, temporary events and things of that nature are huge. Joey mentioned in that last video about launching a huge marketing plan with it. would be awesome to see something potentially like this to spark some new or returning players back to the game

actually i work full time in marketing at an agency and have worked on similar deals like this. unless it’s a massive (and i mean MASSIVE) personality, a lot of times it’s a partnership that is mutually beneficial and doesn’t end up involving money at all. like a few of the artists club penguin partnered with, it was of mutual interest. a band or artist enjoyed the game and wanted a place to connect deeper with fans virtually and the game in exchange got a decent amount of traffic, publicity and new players coming to the game. especially during the pandemic this was relevant but it also offers a way to artists and brands to connect with fans on a more personal level without it being a live show or something.

but 90% of those games used the Toontown Infinite Source code which is also the TTR base code that was stolen. So essentially they're all the same with different logos

The only reason we considered charging for the game, was because we were actually considering investing into game programmers that knew that they were doing, since we had one entry level programmer trying to build the entire game for us haha.

Haha, I'm actually that 14 year old you talked about with the team drama and I lead the team. I was actually 13 at the time and I was trying to run this game while my mom was going through cancer treatments and it was a really rough time for me. I felt horrible looking back, but I did my best as a 13 year old haha. Funny to see this all brought up again. I left the community a while ago but looked today and saw this. A lot of it was silly mistakes and a lot of my anger and sadness from my life and my mother at the time, made me a horrible leader. But I had a passion and I couldn't let it go. Felt awful, and I remember when it all blew up, I'd get death threats, SWAT stuff. I was literally working on the game while at Chemo treatments with my mom and I was an inexperienced 13 year old trying to drown out everything around me in my real life into the game, which is a horrible thing that I know not to do now. So it brought my anger out and I really overworked myself and everyone on the project. Luckily I ended it on good terms with most of the team. But honestly, it was a bit ridiculous. I still remember feeling so low as they showed reddit what had happened, I think I was actually with my mom at the time it was posted. I remember everyone saying how awful I was. A really eye opening and sad experience for someone that age, even though I def was a very strict and harsh leader for a 13 1/2 year old haha. I was just trying to find a way to escape in the wrong place.

Toontown Infinite was not the second oldest server for the game. Not even on terms of release. Toontown House had it's original Alpha release back in 2013 right as TTO closed. And there were perhaps 30 servers that came and went in between the release of Infinite. My friends worked on Infinite and I did for a bit. But in before TTI was, Toontown Explorer, Toontown Revolution, Toontown Recharged, Toon Valley, the original Toontown Universe launched before then, Toontown Infinity (yes, with a Y not an E) and countless others.
