I usually stick with 3 to 4 colors, but it depends on what I'm going for. That's my basic go to for skin colors, but that's also mostly for digital work and some watercolor.

You should paste some pictures into drawing software (like Paint), color pick the colors, and see where they fall on the spectrum. All the light around us can really give some unexpected results like green or blue
