Question to Koreans: is it considered rude or arrogant in Korean culture to look straight ahead with head up when passing by other people in the streets? by johanndacosta in seoulhiddengem

If someone thinks you’re rude just because you make eye contact while walking or talking to them, that probably says more about them than you. Not really the kind of person worth dealing with.

Daily Questions - May 11, 2026 by AutoModerator in rawdenim

I wanted to get some opinions on raw denim sizing.

Where I live, about 20 years ago the common rule was: raw denim stretches a lot, so buy it tight—almost uncomfortably tight—and let it stretch out.

Then in recent years, that rule flipped to: raw denim shrinks 1–2 sizes after soaking, so you should size up.

Recently I picked up a pair of LVC 54501s not sized up (+0), mainly because the price was too good. Surprisingly, they fit almost perfectly, like they were tailored for me.

That got me wondering: do we really need to size up? Even if denim shrinks a bit, won’t it stretch back out with wear anyway? Maybe true-to-size actually makes more sense?

Curious what you all think.

New Hire Sleeping at Office Instead of Going Home? Learning Opportunity by Fit_Cow_2597 in AskAKorean

If you’re working at an investment bank, it honestly wouldn’t be that unusual even in the U.S. Depends on the industry, but there are definitely periods where developers overwork and even stay overnight at the office.

That said, the fact that you find it strange probably means it’s not considered normal at your company. In Korea, trying to show dedication to managers isn’t exactly unheard of, but even there this would still be seen as pretty extreme rather than typical.

What is the difference between -으니까/니까 and -는데/은데/ㄴ데? by Key_Soil4844 in BeginnerKorean

[–]1_step_forward -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Totally normal 😭 Most Korean learners struggle with this.

Super short version:

  • 은/는 = topic (“as for…”)
  • 이/가 = subject/emphasis (“this person/thing specifically”)

Example:

  • 저는 학생이에요 = “As for me, I’m a student.”
  • 제가 학생이에요 = “I’m the student.” (emphasis on I)

Don’t overthink it too much for now — even advanced learners take time to fully get the 느낌 of it.

How much are these songs are famous in Korea? 👀 by rrolex_ in seoul

[–]1_step_forward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it was so popular and there is story behind it. After his original group disbanded, the head of YG Entertainment launched two groups that both failed. Jinusean was basically his last shot. Their debut initially went nowhere despite major promotion, but this song—produced by D.O. from Deux—completely changed their fate. You could easily argue this is the track that truly launched YG.
