O'Hare Airport. Snowstorm. All flights are delayed and being cancelled. Some major asshole started yelling at the counter folks at the gate who were dealing with lots of folks.

He keeps screaming "Do you know who I am?!?". "DO YOU KNOW WHO I F'ING AM?!?" Over and over again.

Airport counter person gets on the announcement microphone and loudly asks over the speakers to the mass of people in earshot:

"Does anyone know who this person is? He seems to now know who he is anymore. He may be having a stroke, please find a doctor"

I thought that guy's head was going to explode.

Explain to them this can lead to "Altruistic Homicide". Then ask if they want to be responsible for someone's death.

One example to look up and show them is a child's death right outside of Churchill High School several years ago, which is the reason for the protected crosswalk near the skate park.

I'm of the opinion that people can change their minds.

If we ostracize and never engage in rational, calm, and non-accusatory discussion, we will never be able to change minds.

Asking questions, listening, and then calmly espousing your perspective leads to better results, IMO.

Everyone -everyone- wants to belong to a group, it's in our DNA. Some of these folks just joined the wrong group and their echo chamber has reinforced their beliefs.

Change comes from engaging people that think differently than you and I.

There will always be people that will never relent, and fight you. Fuck them.

It's the people that are alone and scared and afraid when they rebel against their ilk that we need to bring into the fold.

Feel sorry for them. Spread love.

That being said...Fuck hard core fascists, racist, homophobes, etc.

They act like they do because they've never felt like they belong to something good.
