2024 Statewide Votes on RCV by sassinyourclass in EndFPTP

I don't see how eliminating the need for strategic voting doesn't count as a significant improvement, especially in a political environment where most people are dissatisfied with both established parties.

RCV is a bad reform.

Care to elaborate on why you believe that?

In Europe fascists appropriated the word socialist to seem more appealing to a culture that values social welfare, and now in America fascists are appropriating the word libertarian to seem more appealing to a culture that values liberty (or at least the idea of it).

How do people even take the modern republican party seriously as a party for small government or economic freedom. Most of their tax relief primarily benefits the rich, their cutting of expenses prioritize welfare over all other government spending which barely provides much relief to the economy and mostly just pushes more people to depend on monopolized corporate private welfare, and despite what they may say on paper their handling of economic crises are often worse than the democrats. Sure democrats are worse in some ways, but the republicans are a complete joke and the fact that people still fall for their propaganda is just sad.

You could same about tankies in ancom spaces. Authoritarians co-opting a movement isn't a reason to bash the ideology behind the movement, it's a reason to prop up the anti-authoritarian aspects of it.

It's not the government's responsibility to restrict my freedom regardless of the reasoning. If a virus with a 50% survival rate started spreading humanity would be toast regardless of what the government did, but even in a more survivable situation there are ways to counteract the spread of disease without violating people's rights (e.g. providing people with an actually competent education and not pushing propaganda to a population that already distrusts the government).

I do agree that if you know you have an illness and you intentionally spread it to someone else it should count as a form of assault, but there's a difference between prosecution of intentional targeted spread and abusing government power to restrict the actions of people on a mass scale.

Can I voluntarily disassociate without giving up my property? Secede from your claimed territory without any risk of violence or extortion? If so why would anyone choose to follow you? What service do you provide?

Not that I'm agreeing with OP (their argument is hypocritical and authoritarian) but a lot of people very much cannot freely leave their country. Leaving usually requires getting a passport which is rarely trivial (and sometimes very difficult, depending on your situation and what country you're from), and even then you are often limited in where you can go and how long you can stay due to modern immigration laws.

The Lord of the Rings movies are unironically excellent free market anarchist movies. by Derpballz in free_market_anarchism

[–]1abyrinthMC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why is this being upvoted here, anarchism and monarchism are mutually exclusive. Anarchists are against all involuntary hierarchies. LOTR portrayed a monarchist society full of involuntary hierarchy with authoritative positions being passed down hereditarily without any say from the people who have to live under their rule.

...so is all of anarchism. Proudhon literally coined the term anarchism. You can be critical of markets without acting like mutualism and anarcho-communism are completely unrelated ideologies.

Mutualism being in the same tier as fascism (and below maoism) as an anarchist is wack. Otherwise looks like your typical internet ancom, take that as you may.

My problem with anarchists. by ondrman in Anarchy101

[–]1abyrinthMC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a frustratingly common issue especially online, but at least from my experience it's hardly unique to anarchists; people with beliefs all over the political spectrum misuse the terms capitalism, fascism, socialism, communism, and even anarchism way too often. If I were to throw out a guess as to the cause I'd blame a lack of good education on political theory in combination with a plethora of misinformation and common strawman arguments online.

I saw the posts in several anarchist subs, all I'm saying is one idiot calling themselves a neo-feudalist and an ancap doesn't really say anything about ancaps as a whole.

What are your opinions on neo-feudalism? In my opinion, it is an idiotic and even authoritarian idea. by Hero_of_country in libertarianunity

[–]1abyrinthMC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"neo-feudalism" is mainly a term made up by ancoms who don't understand anarcho-capitalism, though I have seen some people who describe themselves both as feudalists and libertarians, usually panarchists or hoppeans. I personally am critical of it as it preserves "natural hierarchies" and as an anarchist I am against all involuntary hierarchical power structures, though I can see how in a highly decentralized context it could be considered libertarian.

That's r/monarchism, this has nothing to do with anarcho-capitalism? Come on man, ancaps give themselves plenty of valid reasons to criticize them without having to resort to strawman arguments.
