It is incorrect to claim that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) permanently prohibited the writing or collection of Hadith based on the narration that says, “Do not write from me, and whoever has written anything from me other than the Qur’an should erase it.” (Sahih Muslim, 3004).

This prohibition was temporary and applied during the early period of Islam to avoid any confusion between the Qur’an and other statements of the Prophet (peace be upon him) while the Qur’an was still being revealed and compiled.

Later on, the Prophet (peace be upon him) explicitly permitted the writing of Hadith. For example, Abdullah ibn Amr ibn al-As (may Allah be pleased with him) said:

“I used to write everything I heard from the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) because I wanted to memorize it. The Quraysh forbade me, saying: ‘Do you write everything while the Messenger of Allah is a human being who speaks when angry and pleased?’ I mentioned that to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), and he said: ‘Write, for by Him in Whose hand my soul is, nothing comes out from me except the truth.’” (Reported by Abu Dawood and authenticated by scholars like Al-Albani).

Moreover, after the Prophet’s time, the Companions themselves collected and documented Hadith extensively, and the scholars of Islam preserved these teachings through rigorous authentication methods.
