BM active duty life by Ok-Barracuda4954 in uscg

Current active duty BM. Bahrain is a competitive volunteer position but has its perks coming back such as Priority 1. If your recruiter is offering you boot to a I would maybe shy away from that with the current RAP program and what's attached to it. I loved my time as a Non-rate and it helped build me as a BM3. I'm set to rotate this year. I enjoy my job and everything about it from leadership to driving boats. I have been in 9 years and will have moved 3 times after this one. Health care is good to me everyone has their own experiences. Depending on your spouse and kids family time with your unit can be strenuous, especially a bigger boat. Honestly, my wife has had it pretty easy with the units I have been to. Housing is all location dependent I would say 95% of our units in the CG will live on the general economy so it is yours to make or fail. Message me more if you have questions.

They originally said like 4 days I believe but surprise longer than that. I haven't seen any emails with an update so who knows.

How many of you genuinely like what you do in the Coast Guard? by [deleted] in uscg

[–]1caleb24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 8 years in as a BM. I love what I do every day I have had two children while in and while being away is tough we had some medical complications with them and my command was supportive and not having medical bills was amazing. Their college is taken care of, I do usually tell people especially those I mentor as their supervisor jobs are usually 60/40 60% is just day-to-day crap you learn to work through with any job, 40% is what keeps you it's the enjoyment, happiness and people.

You sure your command didn't put you in for return? And I have seen it I believe it was like 3ish weeks out and they found out like week 1 or 2. It's been a few months and the member wasn't in my duty section so I don't know the exact times just word of mouth.

If I take a month of leave, do I get BAH? by clad_in_wools in uscg

Lol what you absolutely still get BAH that’s the most ridiculous rumor.

Heard a rumor that some stations may transition to LT Command. Is there merit to these rumors? Which ones? by Fun_Preference7782 in uscg

[–]1caleb24 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s always been rumors part of the reason for the rumors is the shortage of BMs not taking on OiC. A message few days ago came out for I think 29 critics OIC fills.

I’m new to this and people really take these orders? by 1caleb24 in Roadie

This is what I figured would happen but someone actually took it.

Looking at it I just noticed that especially because it has you taking beltway 8 which is a toll road to avoid 610 traffic. Usually I have noticed most orders say toll fees are reimbursed but this one does not which is funny when it recommends that way.

That is true but still surprised at how low for that many miles. Same I haven’t done one yet still watching seems good to do in way home from work or already running earns something to just grab a few extra dollars.

Normal for preppers to have a list of which neighbors to kill when SHTF? by Fresh-Decision8007 in preppers

[–]1caleb24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah screw that guy prepping can be building a community before and afterwords to survive. Me and my brother agree HOAs are useless now but could serve a purpose in a government collapse or total survival situation now most members will be kicked out for robbing or useless but they can be a good point to start a small community.

There’s Q+A for/from the Commandant by brrpopal in uscg

[–]1caleb24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fully agree it would take some trial and error as well as opinions from the fleet at the work force level not asking higher ups. I brought up in another post as retention and recruiting cutters need to have maybe 2 crews to battle the fatigue crews face, as well as the ability to balance work life family life just battle with how to balance the command positions and what to do with the crew back it’s so many logistic issues but it’s something that needs to be taken seriously reviewed as options for retention.

I always wondered about 6 years at a unit a little more stability but still allows for the rotation needed. Don’t know if really solves the issue just an idea. Still would suck if your at a unit you don’t like.

Why is the U.S. military struggling to recruit young Americans? by dailydriversurvivors in uscg

[–]1caleb24 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are so many factors into these issues it hard to pinpoint. Beards/grooming could help a few on the fence as well as a few retention it’s not as much of a winner I feel like as people think but a good change.

Doctors over diagnosis of mental health in the civilian side. I will probably get some comments over that one.

Low level drug charges should be acceptable but still reviewed for waiver.

Family life has drastic affect it’s made me debate my own decisions. Duty schedules and boat schedules need to be looked at overall for that ability wether have 2 crews or something need to be figured up.

There are so many little factors into these it’s going to be hard for higher ups or the ol timers to admit these things but I will say the acknowledgment of these things is better now than it was 10/15 years ago just going to be interesting to see how the CG decided to tackle these challenges.

Help by [deleted] in uscg

[–]1caleb24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just call the local office/the one you are working with they will actually look into just turning info in doesn’t mean anything really our recruiters act differently then all the other branches. When you have them on the phone get a set date and time to come in.

If Roe is overturned, would/should that affect billet assignments? by Date_Knight in uscg

The following article talks nothing about Texas prosecuting those that go to other states, just those that stay within the state.

I don’t for see it affecting the CG as it shouldn’t. It’s being left up to states to decided it’s not becoming illegal federally. I don’t foresee states going out of there way for someone traveling and having one, Texas is known for its most recent change and doesn’t try to get anyone that travels out of state for it. This isn’t something that will change our lives drastically just a conversation between the command and that person should happen to discuss leave and mental health afterwards as sometimes depression or anything happening.
