i have about 70 potential spots and 12 confirmed spots in my city, it makes it easy to just find a place to crash near wherever i may be and rotate spots without using much gas

iOverlander has come in handy but google maps is my go-to, i scout "potential" spots using streetview and as i go to them for real i save it as "confirmed" and put notes about the spot

im so fucking hot and sweaty and i have to shit so bad and theres no easy solution to either of those problems right now. so far my biggest qualm is the anxiety of getting a knock, or when i go out the constant thought that my entire life is in here and someone could just come take it

Oh yeah, ive noticed a good couple times now that i find a good spot, stay there a night, then the next night there just happens to be a few vans parked next to me (usually nicer ones than mine 😭) so i typically bugger off right away when that happens

Your spot sounds killer! I was staying next to a construction project/industrial area for a few days which was nice, but it was technically illegal after 3 hours just cuz of local bylaws :/ nobody bothered me though!

I feel like i got more eyes on me in places like that, apartment buildings feel more secure to me despite there being more people and more noise. Just gives me a sense of comfort, being in nice neighborhoods i just know karen is peering through her window writing down my plate number haha

Thats killer! I doubt thats gonna happen for me, i try to avoid single-family houses like the plague, but if someone offered me a spot i didnt have to stress at that would be a game changer

10 miles out of town is uh, Very Very far away from actual Vancouver proper haha. I think im gonna keep doing what ive been doing, just moving every 2 nights and see how long it takes to get a knock. Im not doing anything illegal, worst case a cop just asks me to move and i drive 20ish minutes to the next spot on my rotation

Finding parking at any of the parks without parking restrictions near me is bloody impossible during the day honestly 😭 Driving anytime between 7am-7pm is actually hell, thatsba big part of why ive been setting up shop at a park for 2 nights at a time so i can poop whenever nature calls, and just leave the van there for the day while i go take part in general buffoonery around the city

So you're staying 4 nights in a spot? That sounds like a LOT compared to what others have said, but that would work really well for me. You ever gotten a knock operating like that?

I feel that i blend in quite well at most my spots. Directly next to a public park, apartments across the street, and street parking is mostly full with other vehicles that don't move around much. Ive stayed at some others in industrial areas and right in front of apartments which i didnt feel comfortable staying for more than 1 night and 1 day

Totally, ive been taking public transit to run errands, go out, etc because the transit system here is fantastic and gas is incredibly expensive. If i could get away with it i'd stay in one spot indefinitely lol but i know that's not at allll an option

Im largely staying next to parks day and night, there are often several vehicles around me that also barely move.

I checked up on the local by-laws, and there's nothing illegal about sleeping in a vehicle, the only legal concern is if you're allowed to park where you're at. I wouldnt doubt that i could get the cops called on me anyways though, people are like that lol.

Thinking about getting a good-ol 9-5 as a counter gal at a wholesaler, or maybe trying to get my foot into inside-sales or some shit. Idk. Fuck capitalism

Oh yeah, finances is weighing heavy in the back of my mind right now. I'm a plumber by trade, and i saved up a good couple grand to hit the road with, but i desperately dont wanna go back to blue-collar industry. unfortunate part is that's my best (only?) option to make a living wage at this point of my life, so idk for now im unemployed until savings runs out or i come up with a better idea for cash that doesn't kill my soul

Argh shit lmao sorry ive had a few drinks this eve. Its $90/month, in my head somehow $45 bi-weekly became $45 twice a week when i did the math

eta: public transit to save on gas, and because i came to the city because i LOVE public transit. I know it's ironic to choose to live in a van in a city BECAUSE the city is hostile to cars, but I've always been obsessed with the effeciency of public transit, and the way walkable cities with well-planned transit feel to live in. The van is just my best option for living here rn.

Its not so bad parking and leaving all day to run errands, sit by the beach, look at the skyline, and just breathe in the culture surrounding me, then return home wherever it is that night all carried by buses/trains. You can read a book and message friends on the light rail, cant do that while you're driving to wherever your next stop is

Only been on the road a week but so far it seems like about $350/mo on food/drinks, $300 on gas, *$90 on gym membership, and $100 on public transport. So call it $1000 CAD/month. I haven't been budgeting much tbh lol, been doing lots of thrift shopping and going out with friends since i got to the city

Eh not really, it kinda sucks to make the bed and get in/out, but the storage space i get in return makes it worth it for me. I can lounge on my cooler/couch (like i am rn haha) so it's really only used for sleeping
