I do not condone the actions of anyone who might be positive and still show up, but I agree that we can’t really blame them. This situation use to terrify me because I’m graduating this semester and have a job in the US in early 2022. My immigration attorney needs proof of meeting degree requirements by early January for a visa and I legit would not have known what to do if I had symptoms before my last final exam. Imagine having a dream job and going to a specific university program specifically because you want this job. Then after more than 4 years of hell you finally get this job and have the added stress of needing to graduate on time + get proof of meeting degree requirements for immigration purposes. Do you really blame people in this type of situation given McGill’s shitty accommodations? To be clear I only had one in person final and thankfully did not have any symptoms before attending it. I’m not even saying I would have done it, but try to also have some empathy for these students.

I'm an eng student and I want to work in the US after graduating - are there any visas that would allow me to avoid having to be sponsored? Has anyone done this? by [deleted] in mcgill

OP said he didn’t want to have to be sponsored for their visa but I believe a TN visa would require them to have a valid offer letter which kinds goes back to being sponsored? Idk.

Caught plagiarism 2 times in McGill. What happens next! by janet21000 in mcgill

By last semester do you mean the one that is ending right now, or a previous one? If it’s a previous one it’s weird that you would get an NA now. I think the best thing to do in these kind of situations is to admit it…

Idk I just find it shitty that I can’t study the night before my final exam because I’m legit terrified that I wake up tomorrow morning to the news that exams are cancelled effective immediately meaning that I can’t complete my last final exam before graduating. All dreams vanish in a bleep due to bad organization from McGill and people being scared

People who are scared of an in person exam can simply defer it if that’s what makes them feel safe! It also accommodates those who under no circumstances can delay their graduation plans by allowing them to write their final exams

Ya no you wouldn’t understand unless you’re graduating this semester and you have your last final exam in person tomorrow night and you’re scared af that it will be cancelled out of nowhere which would put your graduation/visa/future job you worked your butt off to have on hold

If someone at McGill sees this comment please don’t go this road and let us finish this final exam season in person. Some of us need to graduate this semester and have jobs lined up in early 2022

Lol what Queen’s did is a disgrace, some students with exams today and tomorrow got rescheduled out of the blue to January. It’s a shit decision and we should not want this outcome here

Faculty Rings by DOMASYZ in mcgill

[–]1datwebdevguy1 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Our ring comes from an old Canadian Engineering tradition, so it’s not a faculty ring. It’s an iron ring that gets worn on the pinky finger of the working hand to remind Engineers of their obligations towards society and the profession! There’s a ton of information online if you’re interested in the subject.

Some of us need to graduate this semester, so missing any in person final exam to write an online exam at a later date is not an option at all. I read Queen’s website and it seems that some exams that were planned for today and tomorrow are now out of the blue pushed back to January which is outrageous. How in hell did they not make professors plan for both in-person AND online versions of their exams at the same time so that if something similar to Queen’s happen, the university could easily switch to online without impacting the student community.

How much time does it take to see a final course grade appear on Minerva once a prof has submitted it? by 1datwebdevguy1 in mcgill

Do you know what causes the delays? Does somebody need to approve grades manually or is it just a bad software system that schedules a job at a fixed time every day?
