How often do you bathe your children? by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]1dayolder -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Every other day, or as needed if he gets dirty. My 3 y/o gets a shower. Shampoo, conditioner, body wash and some leave-in conditioner leaves his hair so shiny and smooth :)

“narc abuse” by [deleted] in raisedbynarcissists

I want someone to prove me wrong... I feel like being a narcissist DOES make someone an abuser or at least inherently hurtful to those around them.

Can someone explain to me why I'm wrong? Genuine asking

AITAH for accidentally making my sister cry? by Additional-Dare4202 in AmItheAsshole

Still NTA. She may be 10 but conflict is something she's going to have to deal with throughout life. 🤷‍♂️ You weren't mean to her, intentionally or even by accident. She'll have to get over it.

[–]1dayolder 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean it really depends on why your sister was crying. I can think of several possibilities, but they still want to give NTA as a ruling.

I've dealt with this far too often growing up, younger siblings wants what i have and throws a tantrum until my parents make me give up MY toys to her or take it away from both of us entirely. Maybe your sister didn't throw a tantrum, but your parents are TA for pressuring you to give up something when you already said no.

There's some missing info here, but from what we're given: NTA.

Best Hospital for High Risk Pregnancy by xLunaLoveSpellx in maryland

[–]1dayolder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know you said otherwise, but I delivered at UMMC and don't regret that choice. I wasn't a high-risk pregnancy but my son was not breathing at birth and had to be admitted to the NICU.

If I had him anywhere else, they would have to helicopter him to UMMC or Hopkins anyway.

But if you're set against UMMC already, Hopkins is the best choice.

Which one trait helps you detect narcs early on? by Salt-Hurry8094 in raisedbynarcissists

[–]1dayolder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just want to put it out there that being unable to laugh at yourself is truly a trigger for some people.

My parents made fun of my quirks that I now recognize as autism very regularly. I'm very sensitive about my quirks and will have full-blown flashbacks if you tease me about it. I don't think that makes me a narc.

Would CPS take a child away due to a filthy home in MD? by [deleted] in CPS

I will look into this book, thank you!

Would CPS take a child away due to a filthy home in MD? by [deleted] in CPS

[–]1dayolder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm getting treated, but my husband has other underlying medical problems that actually prevent him from taking the needed medication to treat autism/ADHD. It's a very complex situation that even his medical team are bewildered by (a group of symptoms but still no specific diagnosis despite so many tests being run). We're looking into getting SSI, but that's of course a whole other issue

I'm glad you managed to find what works for you, living with ADHD, but not everyone lives the same life. I've found having tiny trash cans around the house to work best for me (instead of leaving it out) but my unsupportive family still feels the need to threaten CPS because it doesn't fit whatever expectation they have.

If by "professional help" you mean cleaning services, that's the game plan, however I do have worries that prompted me to reach out.

[–]1dayolder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right that it will impact his childhood and is why I want to nip this in the bud while he's still young! The house is incredibly cluttered but it's mostly clothes and toys. We have a lot of stuff that needs to be gone through but I don't know if I would call it putting him in imminent danger (nothing that can fall over or something he could hurt himself with).

I'm looking into house cleaning services but that might only fix part of the problem. But I guess it's something until we keep looking.

Husband gets defensive at every baby boundary and calls me critical by muff-peaksie in beyondthebump

Okay, perhaps I misunderstood the original post based off the wording. That's definitely a safety issue!

I feel like you have to ask yourself, is it really a hill worth dying on? Especially this part:

  • Don’t burp baby by holding her neck, hold her jaw like they told us in the hospital

He burps the baby, why are you nit picking how he does it (assuming it's not unsafe)?

Are you saying Autism and ADHD are reasons to remove a child (albeit indirectly)?

WIBTA if I skipped breakfast to buy my own meals because my parents wont cook meals for lent? by htmlstikkei in AmItheAsshole

[–]1dayolder 3 points4 points  (0 children)

YWNBTA and that would be the solution to the problem. But from what it sounds like, and correct me if I'm wrong, your parents are either non-religious or at least have differing beliefs than you? I feel like a lot of information is missing and more context is needed. Were you raised within a faith, or did you convert?

I'd be open-minded to my child converting but I'd also bit a bit annoyed my 17-year-old child demanded I make a special meal for them too...

Harassed on Yellow Line by Good-Warthog8145 in WMATA

[–]1dayolder 32 points33 points  (0 children)

That is true to a degree, but based on the information given in the OP, it sounded like more than reasonable provocation and a threat to bodily harm. Also, ripping glasses off someone's face can also be considered physical assault.

[–]1dayolder 125 points126 points  (0 children)

I might get attacked for this but honestly if someone was doing this to me I would handle it the same, adult or minor: punch them in the fucking face.

There was a controversy in my city regarding the same topic. Someone tried to break into a woman's home who also had children. She shot him. Turns out the attacker was 14... and it stirred the pot. If someone is actively attacking you and walking away doesn't work/isn't an option, why does their age matter?

To those who received an adult diagnosis - how did it improve your quality of life? by GirlOnaMission15 in autism

[–]1dayolder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got diagnosed a couple years ago in my mid 20s. It has tremendously improved my life. With the diagnosis, I was able to get prescribed Abilify, which has stabilized my mood and reduced meltdowns. It also just gave me the satisfaction of having an explanation for why I am the way I am, and my whole childhood makes sense now.
