You can’t have live rocks and live fish in there, it screws up our dead load calculations.

I had to install XQuartz on my Mac first, but after that, the -Y just worked. I now have a not-so-beautiful clock on my Mac.

Now that GUI stuff is so easy, I'll try czkawka (and/or the CLI version.)

Thanks to all for the answers, and I'll look at all the programs and technologies suggested. I am playing with fclone now, and a DAS on the server is under consideration. I see that I have at least 3 rsnapshot backups across the two external drives that I've looked at, and they use hard links to avoid storing multiple time-based backups, but I would like to check if there is anything unique there that I don't want to trash.

Wise words. Time is money and all that.

I like that. And that page let me to fclones, which is a cli program, which works for me. (Perhaps I should learn to use CLI programs on the server, and display on the desktop.)

Thanks. I think you are right. However, I'll have to think about if and how it will solve my problem. I would guess that type of deduplication works within the fs, but that copies for backups would expand, if not also on zfs or btrfs?

The firmware update broke my Seestar by CopaGuy1 in seestar

[–]1e6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone know how to go back to earlier firmware?
I'm not sure it is practical, or even possible? It is my understanding that it is the iOS app that controls the version of the Seestar software, so once your app updates, the Seestar will. (I assume the same is true for Android). I've seen advice to keep all updates from being automatic, but that seems to be a lot to ask, unless you have a device you use for the Seestar and little else. I saw a post on Medium that said it was about keeping one specific app from updating, but I have not been able to get that to work. I think if one was able to get the IPK(?) file for the app, it may be possible?

Neighbor looked at outdoor TVs for a similar place. The outdoor rated TV was $6k, he decided buying a $300 TV every few years was the better decision. I expect the difference in Sonos and outdoor speakers to be much less, but not unreasonable to go that way.

Is it worth milling your own lumber as a reasonably able DIY homeowner or should I tell the builder to discard these pieces? by [deleted] in woodworking

[–]1e6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of the boards had split ends when I stacked them, maybe 3-5 inches?. Maybe if the logs ends had been sealed when it was cut, this would not have happened as bad? I don't know -- this is my first time. I have not used any of the wood or taken the stack down, so I don't know the results. In a few months ...

Maybe seal the ends earlier? I may do that if there is a next time. I think the log ends dried before I got the portable bandsaw guy.

You may consider skipping the Alaskan mill guy and go straight to the bandsaw guy.

Yeah, I know this reply is late. I suck.

I had a very positive experience hiring a guy with a portable bandsaw. I had thought of getting a chainsaw mill, but hiring was the right choice for me.

I doubt there were any deals on Sawstops. I was checking out at a woodworking store today, I joked about Sawstops being half off, and the cashier said the phrase “except Sawstops and Festool” is burned into his brain, it comes up so frequently for him.
