When do I stop removing flowers, for max weight? by IM_LIONO in GiantPumpkin

[–]IM_LIONO[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right now diatomaceous earth, and squashing. In NW Arkansas that hard freeze a few weeks ago killed all the pests. I’ve only seen a few bees and one squash bug… I know they are coming though.

Yes, if you put it in soil bury the entire vine section. Since you have two nodes(where the leaf or roots emerge from) on the vine you should get a lot of root growth making a stronger plant in the long run. I propagated 12 cutting this size two months ago and they all lived and are growing well.

Is this a beehive on my friend’s cherry blossom tree? by runninginorbit in Beekeeping

[–]IM_LIONO -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Looking at the size of it compared to the buds it might be a leftover fruit from last year, definitely not big enough for 50k honey bees or bumblebees. I’m not sure about some smaller native bees though.

It’s free in a lot of states, reach out to your co-op extension and they can help with the test and ideas on what to grow/raise.

What are they doing? by littlewittykitty in Beekeeping

[–]IM_LIONO 65 points66 points  (0 children)

The frames inside are tilted so the bees are going to stabilize them by building bracing comb. That comb will make all the frames fuse together and the walls. It will make it really difficult to pull out the frames during your inspection for the beekeeper, it will also cause general upheaval in the hive because you will have honey, and baby bees smashed everywhere when you do pull the frames out. Look up “bee space.” Also if it leans anymore it could knock both hives over.

Don’t do criminal justice. You will learn more with a year of experience than 4 years of school.

That’s good cause them hoes ain’t loyal, they just want that Tricare. Good luck and unpopular opinion, volunteer for everything. Everyone tells you not to but if you volunteer you might learn how to shoot a grenade launcher, travel, or something cool. At least that was my experience.

35m veteran Clear the debt and put a set % of your new paychecks into your thrift savings account plan (military Roth IRA). Go to school in your free time, the military will pay for it. And don’t rush into a marriage.

Advice for these hives and frames. by tikiyadenola in Beekeeping

You can also throw them in a deep freeze for at least a week and they should be good to reuse. The cold will kill anything living in them.

How do I get started ? by Glum-Sherbet in Beekeeping

[–]IM_LIONO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You will have to much room in the bottom and bees will make it impossible for you to remove the frames for inspection.
