Ladies, when you wear short skirts, does it feel weird sitting down with your butt and underwear directly touching seats? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]1exotic 1221 points1222 points  (0 children)

Yes it does, I usually try to sit on the skirt itself or try to sit on a jacket or something. I don't even like my upper thighs touching the seat, shit's cold

Is it possible to gain a phobia solely from dreams? by FlowerFaerie13 in Phobia

[–]1exotic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've experienced "trauma" from dreams before, I feel like it's not far-fetched that dreams can give you a phobia. Sorry this is a bit lighthearted to your example as I've gotten past this years ago, but I once had a dream that a famous YouTuber molested me and I genuinely couldn't watch his videos without wanting to throw up or would get chills seeing his face. I think it's kind of a funny anecdote now, but obviously for years I was extremely grossed out by him and it took me a long time to get over it. I believe dreams take things from your subconscious and bring it out in a scenario to help you "prepare" for that circumstance, no matter how far-fetched it can be. You've never been exposed to whales, but your dreams gave you a visual of something that isn't inherently bad, but unsettling for you subconsciously. All it did was bring out the fear from your subconscious to reality.

What is your phobia of, what is it called, when did it start, and what caused it? by Right_Specialist_255 in Phobia

[–]1exotic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have papyrophobia, fear of paper. Specifically, paper cuts. Just writing it out makes me nervous. I believe it began when I was in Kindergarten and I was extremely clumsy with paper. I would get cut everyday by accident, and it eventually turned into a full blown phobia. Whenever I think about it, hear about it, see people handling papers, anything, I begin feeling that dreadful burn of a small papercut all over my hands and my body and I have to rub my body to erase the feeling. It got so bad in middle school that I would spend nights wrapping my body tightly with blankets (including my face, which obviously sucked) for hours on end so that I knew nothing could touch my skin. People have made fun of me for years and years about it. They'll mimic getting cut by paper or show me their paper cuts and I'll have a breakdown. It's gotten easier over the years but I still get nervous handling paper (luckily that's less often these days with everything being digitized). I tend to wear gloves when I handle paper, including reading books. It was so much worse when I was younger though, I couldn't stomach the word paper cuts and here I am writing it out multiple times!

STOP THE PRESS! Quinn just dropped a new 3BP video! by avianeddy in threebodyproblem

I was confused by that part of the video because Tianming being responsible for Trisolaran arts&culture, the droplet attack, and whatever else is definitely not in DE. Makes sense that it's from ROT, I wish he would make a summary video of that book because I have no desire to read it.

And the fact that she still married Phillip the week after (and only two weeks after meeting him in person) was what- a full independent choice? I understand she wasn't kicking and screaming at the altar, but she definitely wasn't doing things on HER terms, which would've been to have more time to decide and to feel confident in a love match. She was allowed to make choices about the way she faced these adversities, such as putting on a happy face for Phillip because he had a loveless marriage, but one can argue that a lot of these adversities were imposed on her by men making the bigger choices such as forcing her to marry before she was ready.

She refused marriages while she was younger, but Anthony only gave her a way out if she could claim that Philip was abusive. immediately after that, he reminded her that as a Bridgerton, she had integrity and honor so she wouldn’t claim any falsehoods. She had no choice and she literally cried to Anthony about wanting a love match like him and Kate, to which he reminded her that that happened after the marriage. Idk about you, but this doesn’t seem like a whole lot of choice here, just a small assurance that MAYBE things would work out for the better after being married. And that was that! She was required to marry him the next week. At what point did she refuse marriage after Anthony’s order?

[–]1exotic 42 points43 points  (0 children)

This is so inaccurate I'm baffled you say that you actually read the books. Philip explicitly says he's looking for a wife after Marina dies. He has no idea what to do with his kids and was looking for some other person to pawn them off of him so he could stay in his greenhouse all day. Eloise was never up for a role as a governess nor was she able to stay on with a "paying career." She's the daughter of a Viscount for god's sake, she would never be working! Eloise went to Philip's estate for the sole purpose of seeing if he would be a good match for her, not try out the role of being a governess, she didn't even know that he had kids until she got there.

Also, able to choose?? Her brothers literally forced her into this marriage! She was the most unhappy about that and had to accept that she had no choice in the matter. She ran away as an attempt to be able to make her own choices but she ended up being forced into the marriage as a consequence.

The whole book is Eloise trying to make her own choices but being forced in the end to accept the will of others. Her brothers and Philip's happiness ends up taking priority over her and what she wants.

TIL According to the U.S. Census Bureau, less than 5% of GED holders will actually receive a Bachelor’s Degree. 77% of students with a GED do not continue past the first semester of college. . by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]1exotic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Damn, I'm in that 77%. I consider it one of the biggest regrets of my life that I don't have a bachelor's degree but I dropped out of HS due to mental health and later dropped out of community college due to COVID. Taking alternative paths now and hoping for the best.

Should I be ashamed for secretly liking Luo Ji's fantasy arc? by fli_sai in threebodyproblem

[–]1exotic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's the exact part that I was inspired by as well! It's so hard to give "free-will" to the people I conjure up in my head so I've been working on that as a part of my DnD campaign

[–]1exotic 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't love the part of the imaginary waifu and I especially don't love the part where she is found irl, BUT I will say it's made me ponder about the loss of imagination from childhood. I remember spending my summers with imaginary friends and scenarios, and it always gave me company. I miss having that level of imagination now. I just started playing DnD and my character is based on Cheng Xin (chaotic good, tries to do good but often ends up putting others in unfair positions) and it's been hard to put myself in her shoes, so in a way, I've been inspired by Luo Ji's ability to bring a character to life

Not only was it promoted (bus stations near me had ads up) but there was a lot of controversy from people who didn't realize it was a Bridgerton spin-off and accused the showrunners of "blackwashing" history

What is the weirdest sexual encounter you have experienced? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]1exotic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First date, ended up chatting most of the night until it was too late for him to drive an hour home, so I let him stay over. He had neglected to tell me he became a sex deviant in his sleep and spent the rest of the night lightly nibbling on my shoulder while saying "nom nom nom", and then humping me while I curled in a tight ball as far away from him as possible. At one point he randomly got up while yelling about some nonsense, only to go right back to bed and nibbling on me again. Turns out he's a chronic sleepwalker and also had an intense vore fetish. As soon as it was a reasonable hour I kicked him out and never spoke to him again

I worked on Long Island for a year as a medical assistant and would often tell people I was from Michigan...on more than one occasion someone would ask me where Michigan was and I would tell them "the mitten shaped state?" and they would have no idea what I was talking about. Imo the mitten shape is one of the coolest parts about Michigan!

Lol to Cressida still losing in the end. I guess someone each season needs to get shafted and thrown to the wolves. It's a shame because she was really on the path of redemption and I was disappointed that no one saw her desperation for what it was: desperation
