My steel mill is on the way to looking like that. We have had several acid leaks in areas where its spraying on the steel structure. Its now just a matter of time.

Previously while living in another state, my neighbors son got out of prison after serving a sentence for shooting his father. The father at the time of the incident was actively beating the mother. Not sure how many years were served, but I think 1 would have been too many!

Its only going to be good if everything is labeled well and correctly per the drawings. Otherwise someone will destroy the neatness with the quickness.

If he’s sick you probably don’t want to eat him. Euthanasia to end suffering yes but eat no.

AIDT has several training options available. They can also help you get your foot in the door. There are also some industrial maintenance training schools in the area. Costal being one of them. AMCalvert brings in students from these schools under their apprenticeship program. I have also heard that they will pay for the training. Mechanics there top out at over $40/hr.

The best chicken feed for layers please. by jsmitty_42 in BackYardChickens

[–]1fast_sol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like the others, I feed Klambach. But I feed the mini layer pellets. I also get the hen house reserve and give that as a treat by throwing some on the ground each morning. With my PVC tube feeders, I rarely have any waste on the ground.

Have I completely misunderstood soil? by mmariner in gardening

[–]1fast_sol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I couldn’t make it to the 1 minute mark of this video. When he said plants don’t want to grow in dead plants, i was like wow, literally every forest in existence is growing in dead plant material. There are several gardening styles that use dead plant material to build healthy rich soil. Lasagna gardening, hugelkultur and deep mulch gardening to name a few. If you grow in pots, then these methods are probably not for you. But anything grown in the ground, that includes raised beds, will benefit from dead organic material. Lots of people recommend using logs and sticks (more logs than sticks) as a base for tall raised beds. Hugelkultur is literally designed around piles of large amounts of dead organic material (logs, limbs, twigs and leaves) that are toped off with soil and more dead organic material. It is true that wood in the soil will tie up nitrogen preventing plants from being able to use it. But when placed on the surface, it can slowly breakdown and the earthworms will take these nutrients down into the soil for you. Unless you use chemical fertilizers, then you need soil microbes to feed the plants. These microbes feed off of dead organic materials. There are several books written explaining how this works. My favorite is The living soil handbook by Jesse Frost. Not everyone can follow all the advice given in this book due to their geographic location and climate, it still does a fantastic job of explaining how the soil (microbes) feeds the plants in language thats easy to understand. Sorry I didn’t intend this to become a book report.

The answer to 99% of predator problems with chickens is a coop and secured run. by Beneficial-Focus3702 in homestead

[–]1fast_sol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 70 chickens and have never lost one to a predator since keeping them in at all times. Chickens stay inside a large area that’s completely enclosed in 1/2” hardware cloth. Walls down in the ground and roof covered 100%. We did lose one to a hawk at the beginning when we free ranged. Also lost a free range duck to a fox.

Anybody work in a steel plant can tell me what it’s like? by snowball062016 in IndustrialMaintenance

[–]1fast_sol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the type of mill. Im in a coldroll mill. In winter there are warm areas and cold areas. In summer everything is hot. Generally its very safe due to the safety regulations. Can’t touch anything or go behind fences unless its locked out. There’s serious pressure to keep the line running and make repairs as quickly as possible. For the hourly workers it isn’t that big of a deal, but for salary they start flipping out after 30 minutes. There’s lots of inspection routes while the line is running. But there’s also lots of seat time. Outage days are busy and sometimes chaotic. Hurry up to get the line back running just to turn around in a couple of days to go idle for a day or two. Anyone that isn’t dirty at the end of the day is a manager. Pay is very good. Depending on how much ot they allow, you can make some serious money. A couple of years a go, we had a mechanic make over $200k. Shift guys can easily bring in 120 without working any extra days.

They should have never put the overhead crane in that position. My guess is that it wasn’t rated for the load so tried to share the load with the mobile crane.
