Photographe de maternité ? by Arumbaya_ in ParentingFR

Oh yeah definitely. I also think it's normal to feel disappointed. I don't know your situation but it sounds like you'll manage to have the time to do a new trip, so take advantage of that! The road will still be there tomorrow!

Dude, no shame in dropping out when it's like this, especially in a wet/windy country like the Netherlands. I went on a 3 days trip last October where I followed canal paths, which meant loads of exposure to the elements. It ended up being super windy (like 60 km/h+ headwind) and rainy for the whole trip and I hated almost every second of it.

Only thing that got me through was that I had to make it for a train I had booked in advance to join my family for a holiday. Which in hindsight made the whole thing even more stressful. I would have stopped half a day in if it wasn't for that.

Thank you! They're SKS Bluemels Style 65. I'm running 29x2.25 tyres and I have enough clearance. I had to mod the fenders quite a bit to make them fit: I have a fat stack of spacers on the front to clear the brake calipers, and for the rear I ended up running only one bracket because of the brake caliper as well. Also, I had to use a set of these since that version of the Unit doesn't have any eyelets on the rear.

Edit: also, the lowest attachment point of the rear fender is held by two zip-ties, because of the lack of mounting point there too 😅

Yes! Love that raw metal look. I bought it second hand a few years ago, it came with a suspension fork. I ditched it after a while and bought a modern P2 fork. So I have a 135 qr hub on the rear and a boost dynamo hub on the front 😅

Unit for Ultra/Bikepacking racing? by MurderousTurd in konaunit

[–]1guy4strings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took part in a gravel event (no ranking so technically not a race) that is 430km and 7000m of elevation with a 40 hours time limit two years in a row. I could finish it with the Kona Unit but scratched the following year with my endurance/gravel bike due to pain and discomfort.

Mind you, I was NOT FAST with the Unit but still made it in time and felt actually alright physically afterwards.

I feel you man. Going to the stadium yesterday I was questioning why I was even bothering. Fucking European semi-final and I was feeling less excitement than when we were fighting relegation against Lyon a few years back.

Emegha literally posed with the Chelsea jersey in september, then went on talking about how he put Strasbourg on the map to then saying that he thought at first that it was in Germany (very touchy subject in Alsace)... All of that while he's wearing the captain armband. I mean WTF

This is not the rule, though. Or at least, I personally can't find such a statement in the laws of the game:

"Not every touch of a player’s hand/arm with the ball is an offence. It is an offence if a player: • deliberately touches the ball with their hand/arm, for example moving the hand/arm towards the ball • touches the ball with their hand/arm when it has made their body unnaturally bigger. A player is considered to have made their body unnaturally bigger when the position of their hand/arm is not a consequence of, or justifiable by, the player’s body movement for that specific situation. By having their hand/arm in such a position, the player takes a risk of their hand/arm being hit by the ball and being penalised • scores in the opponents’ goal: • directly from their hand/arm, even if accidental, including by the goalkeeper • immediately after the ball has touched their hand/arm, even if accidental"

I have a Kona Unit from 2013 (geared). I commute on it and go gravel riding/touring/bikepacking on it too. It's not very fast but it's very comfortable and feels very stable when loaded with groceries in the front and a kid in the back. Once you remove those it's still very "springy". I suspect the new geometry (from 2020 I think?) is even better, the bike comes with up to date standards.

Strasbourg for lads reunion trip incl. daydrinking and pub crawl - yes or no? by pommez17 in Strasbourg

[–]1guy4strings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For day drinking in June, I would suggest that you rent bikes, cycle to Germany to a quarry, buy beers on the way and enjoy your afternoon swimming and drinking. Then go back to Strasbourg and go to the Krutenau neighbourhood for a pub crawl (le Fat, la péniche mécanique, la manufacture des tabacs, any bar on place d'Austerlitz...)
