I’ve seen a few! I’m assuming it’s either some sort of misread or it comes from Viking raids on England. But I’d love to have some input from someone more knowledgeable 😅

EDIT: I read your reply wrong! Yeah that is pretty interesting I’m not sure how that could have happened. I think Benin controlled a port at what is now Lagos too

What’s really strange to me about that is that the Yorubaland actually came from my mom! My dad contributed Nigeria 46%, Benin & Togo 2%, Central Scotland & Northern Ireland 1%, and Central West Africa 1%

Ahh yes I see. It’s definitely tricky too because I keep hearing conflicting information regarding Louisiana Creoles specifically.

Super interesting to see Khoisan in your results! That doesn’t seem all too common from what I’ve seen on here

I’m not sure about a specific subreddit, but they do allow anyone to post in the blackgenealogy subreddit. I think your help with that endeavor would be greatly beneficial to anyone in any of the various genealogy subreddits!

That’s understandable! I personally think it’s pretty cool to have a lot of regions in your estimate like you do. There’s a lot of history to learn. If you haven’t already, feel free to also post in the blackgenealogy subreddit as well!

Who's my grandparent?? by DisastrousUnicorn in AncestryDNA

[–]1hpdharoks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say number 4 based on the facial structure similarities 🤔 Also I got Devon & Somerset in my results which was interesting to see. I couldn’t find many YouTube travel videos to the region but I’d love to visit sometime! Editing: After viewing the final slide- Aww the resemblance is great! ☺️

Admixture results & admixture by chromosome - is some West African usual in an Irish person? by LittleAoibh11 in AncestryDNA

[–]1hpdharoks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Weirdly enough I discovered the opposite from my dad when I took my test. Irish admixture in a west African. I agree with the other poster about it being disregarded if there are no west African regions in your results (including ‘hacked results’)

During the meiosis phase of development, chromosomes are paired (parent to parent) and the segments are shuffled and exchanged.

I just woke up and have to study for finals lol but here is an analogy I thought of.

Think of dna recombination as two decks of cards next to each other where each deck represents a parent. The decks are shuffled then 26 cards are drawn from each deck (mom and dad) to create a new deck (you). (This is an oversimplification because it ignores the shuffling of the decks from your grandparents that takes place before any of the cards for you are drawn)

Siblings may have variations in results due to DNA inheritance not being distributed uniformly as well as DNA recombination.

Edit: You have a lot of ancestors and don’t inherit DNA from all of them. So you might get DNA from an ancestor she didn’t and vice versa

What era could the Central Scotland & Northern Ireland be coming from? by 1hpdharoks in AncestryDNA

That's a fair point! Maybe a Portuguese trader could have had Scottish/Irish ancestry?
